Congratulations to Senior Fencers who competed in the 2024 Australian Senior Schools Fencing Championships. In an extraordinary accomplishment, SBHS achieved a clean sweep in the team events, winning Gold in all three weapons and securing the Australian Schools Fencing Championship title for the year. Our Foil Fencers were particularly proud to break our national Gold medal drought in Foil since 1999. Go HIGH!

Congratulations to our First Grade Volleyball Team on earning a hard-fought AAGPS Co-Premiership with Scots this year. Since 2003, High's first-grade team has been premiers or co-premiers each year except in 2017 – a magnificent record. Second-grade volleyball were premiers in their competition this season. Since 2006, High has missed out only twice on securing the premiership at this level. Well done boys and Go HIGH!

Congratulations Alex Shao (Year 11) for winning Gold in the 89 BW category at the NSW u15 and Youth u17 State Championships. Alex's total of 205kg - Sn**ch 90kg, Clean & Jerk 115kg - secured him a spot at the 2024 Youth Nationals in Hobart later this year. Thank you Old Boy, coach, and athlete Nelson Cheng for coaching Alex at this competition. Go HIGH!

A massive congratulations to our 1st Grade Football Team for securing the AAGPS Premiership with an excellent victory last Saturday 17 August. This marks the first premiership for Sydney High Football since 1995, a fantastic achievement. Congratulations Maurice Wong (Year 11) on receiving the NSW Young Volunteer of the Year Award (City of Sydney / Eastern Suburbs region). Maurice was recognised for his contribution to St John’s Ambulance NSW, where he volunteered over 300 hours in 2023, mentoring new recruits and providing vital first aid support at large events such as City 2 Surf, Sydney Half Marathon, Vivid Lightscape and the Anzac Day Dawn Service.

**Our Sydney High Cadet Unit is urgently looking for Volunteer Adult Staff** - Our cadet unit has been in operation for 141 years since the school’s inception, being one of the oldest cadet units in the nation. Our unit has grown in popularity in recent years, including the addition of students from Sydney Girls High, showing the strong interest of the students in the program.

Due to unexpected staffing changes, to remain operational in the near future, we will require a new unit member to be trained at the Grade 3 level to coordinate the program. Unfortunately, we’re yet to find an individual to lead cadets at Sydney High into the future. To allow the unit to continue at its current size we would also require additional Grade 1 cadets staff. If you’re interested in getting involved in the cadet unit at either the Grade 1 or Grade 3 levels, a military background is not required. There may be some Old Boys who were once enrolled in the school’s cadet unit who would like to come back, or it may be another member of the community who would like to be involved. Come down to support our current players, in particular the Year 12 boys as they finish up their High sporting endeavours. Importantly, the First Grade Football (Soccer) team is attempting to win their first premiership since 1995. On the rugby side, the First XV team is building confidence with every close match played so far.

HIGHLIGHT FROM TERM 1: 649 boys competed, and 474 participated in at least 3 events, at our annual School Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to Eedy House for winning the day with 970 points. Year 12 boys dressed in their favourite costumes and enjoyed their final school athletics carnival. Thank you Mr Rich and staff for hosting another successful athletics carnival for our boys.

SBHS Prefects hosted an afternoon tea for prefects from twenty-eight high schools. Students participated in trivia, games, and team challenges while sharing their leadership experiences. Well done boys for putting together a wonderful event!
