Our Father's Day keychain workshop provided students with an opportunity to create a sweet momento for a special someone.
In preparation for Father's Day, we hosted a mug workshop and our attendees created some incredibly original and highly personalised gifts.
We have a busy schedule of events planned for Week 7 and we look forward to seeing there.
Join us and elevate your break.
Happy Father's Day!
Our senior farm crew has been very busy over the last couple of weeks with animal husbandry for our poultry. On Wednesday they weighed all the chickens to check their health - they were last weighed in June. Most have gained a small amount of weight or are about the same. However, one chicken that we have been checking regularly is Frodo. She has lost weight over the last two months. Some of our older chickens have stopped producing eggs, but egg production is picking up with the longer warmer days. We have recently had the sheep drenched and their hooves checked and soon they will need to be shorn. Andy Moore is our shearer and he does a great job, especially explaining to students why we drench the sheep and his techniques for holding the sheep whilst he drenches/shears them. Sheep are very strong.
Front Entrance Project
The front entrance project (Phase 1) has been installed and is looking spectacular. The design has been carefully thought out and is reflective of our beautiful site and history. The languages on the stairs were chosen by using our student enrolment data and are based on the most common languages other than English spoken in our students’ homes. The project also includes a 3D front entrance school sign above the stairs and a large plinth with our Acknowledgement of Country.
Once again, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to our Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association members who have funded this project.
Phase 2 of the project will include the installation of sandstone blocks and the planting of native shrubs and ground covers that have been donated by our families via the Blacktown City Council nursery. We will be adding a total of 300 plants to our grounds over the coming months, including some Red Gum and Grey Box trees at the top of our site where we have a stand of remnant Cumberland Plain Woodland. Besides the front entrance, the plants will be used to revegetate the areas around the Senior Area. Others will be donated to the TAS faculty for their Plot to Plate Garden and the school farm. Thank you for your support with this project.
Today, library leader, Lachie (Year 7) shared his love of the popular Netflix series, Wednesday with the QHHS community and they joined him in a Kahoot trivia challenge. The players were a passionate bunch and the competition was fierce. Thank you, Lachie for creating and hosting this event.
In Mr Chen's Year 9 Psychology class last week, students have been putting their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test as they explore the Psychology of Success. Their challenge? Build a tower strong enough to hold sweet treats, but with a twist: some teams couldn't communicate, others worked with second-hand paddle pop sticks and plasticine, while a few had the luxury of hot glue. The aim was to see how they identify and navigate internal and external barriers on the path to meeting their goal.

9M8 mathematics students, learning about surface area moved beyond textbook formulas when they engaged in a hands-on activity that involved constructing nets on grid paper and then assembling these into three-dimensional (3D) shapes. 9M8 mathematics students enhance their engagement in the classroom by exploring the area of composite shapes. Using grid paper, students first drew simple shapes such as rectangles and triangles and calculated the area of each part. By combining the areas of these known shapes, students determined the total area of the composite shape, reinforcing their understanding and application of mathematical concepts in an interactive and hands-on way.
