Cybertip.ca Alert: Tinder-style app for teens poses sextortion danger: Cybertip.ca recommends parents consider removing Wizz from devices 02/29/2024

Cybertip.ca®, Canada’s tipline for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children, is warning parents and caregivers about the dangers of Wizz and recommend removing the app from their children’s phones.

What is Wizz?
Wizz is a chat app that combines features similar to those seen on Tinder (swiping through profiles), and Omegle, an online service designed to pair strangers in video chats which was recently shutdown following a lawsuit over child sexual abuse and exploitation. Wizz permits users to share information about themselves on their profiles (e.g. location, interests). Wizz’s design also allows users to feature their other social media profiles, such as Snapchat, making it easy for users to add each other on different platforms. This feature may lead sextorters from Wizz to teens’ other social media accounts to victimize them.

🚨 ALERT! We’re receiving reports of text messages claiming to be from Canada Revenue Agency. The message includes the victim’s full name and Social Insurance Number (SIN) and asks that a payment be sent to a phone number.

Remember that the CRA won’t ask for a payment via text message. If you have been part of a breach or a victim of identity theft, fraudsters will use the information as a tool to steal your money!

Locals with security cameras — including doorbell cams — are invited to join the CamSafe registry, a database that the Brant County OPP can refer to when video footage would aid an investigation.

Registered camera locations are mapped out, and officers can use the contact information for the home or business owner to make a request to view footage. The CamSafe database does not give direct access to security cameras or cloud-based accounts, and registrants can opt out at any time.

For more information, or to register with CamSafe, go to https://camsafe.ca/
