Did you know that we have a Personal Support Worker program? Yes, we do! This year, we launched the NACC Personal Support Worker certificate program and we are currently enrolling students for our next cohort!

Here's why we are offering the program to potential students:

1) The last few years have shown us that people need people, and when someone needs assistance with daily living, they should be able to have a caring, compassionate and skilled individual available for support.

2) The Ontario Labour Market states that the Occupational Outlook Rating for those in the field is strong, and that "Relative to other occupations, these occupations tended to have very high numbers of online job postings relative to the size of the occupation, very low unemployment rates in the recent past, very high projected employment growth rates and very high projected rates of attrition due to retirement."

We wanted to offer those interested in the program an opportunity to find out more in a Virtual Information Session which we will be having on August 15, 2024 from 4-5.

We are so happy that summer is almost (officially) here, and we wanted to welcome the season in with the appropriate amount of enthusiasm.

On June 20, 2024, we are opening our doors from 12-3 to our community partners, students and the general public to showcase what we do, how we do it, and to launch some exciting new projects we have been working on!

At 1:00 pm, we will have the first of 2 guest speakers talk about her experience as a newcomer to Canada and how she built her own successful business, followed by another inspirational lady who is also a newcomer who has been working with us on an exciting new project that we are so excited to unveil.

The event will feature great food (JP Weirdoughs, The Ice Cream Bar and Ellas Cuisine Kingston) a henna artist, and the opportunity to make great connections with others who are passionate about education and our community.

Are you ready for the Eclipse on April 8, 2024?

The Government of Canada website defines it as "a spectacular and rare celestial event is set to unfold over Canada, the United States and Mexico – a total solar eclipse. As the Moon aligns perfectly between Earth and the Sun, temporary darkness will sweep across parts of the country, captivating countless spectators."

Don't look directly at it! Doing so can result in partial or total loss of eyesight! That said, we really want to get a look. Don't you?

The eclipse is expected to begin at 2:09 pm and end at 4:34 pm. If you're like us, and want to witness this amazing phenomenon, you need to make sure you're wearing the appropriate eyewear.

It's been a busy time for us at Academy of Learning College - Kingston. With the holidays behind us, we are geared to go for the new year, and we're so excited to tell you that we have officially launched registration for our February, 2024 NACC Personal Support Worker certificate program!

This program is through National Association of Career Colleges, and includes comprehensive content to prepare graduates toward successfully obtaining PSW certification.

We've listened to local employers, and they have been unanimous in saying that they are looking for graduates who have had hands-on training. For this reason, the program's 20 weeks of theory will held in-class only and will be taught by a fully qualified instructor with extensive experience in the nursing field. The program requires 8 weeks of placement so that students will be able to apply what they've learned in a relevant setting.

In keeping with the theme, we wanted to let you know that this Saturday, January 27th from 10-2, Providence Care will be holding a Job Fair for Personal Support Workers, RPNs and RNs. The event will be held at 533 Montreal Street in Kingston. This will be a great opportunity to find out what this wonderful career has to offer.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Open "Haunted" House yesterday! We had such a great time and connected with some really wonderful people.

Special thanks to Debra Savoy Canadian Spiritual Medium who gave such a wonderful talk about how to heal from emotional trauma, something so many of us can relate to. Debra was also able to provide some much-needed information to some of our guests who had loved ones come through who wanted to say "hi!". Thank you also to Gracie from Gracie's Psychic Tarot Readings who read for guests throughout the day, providing guidance and clarity. These two ladies made a "spooky" event feel somehow comforting and cozy. We cannot say thank you enough to both of you!

Thank you also to those who attended from our local employment agencies and community partners, as well as our students who came in with the enthusiasm that we hoped for. Lastly, thank you to the staff who helmed the BBQ, made all the treats, and decorated the campus to really show it off.

It was such a great day with the perfect amount of tricks and treats, and even though it was dark and gloomy day, we all felt lighter.
