Today, in my capacity as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, I had the pleasure to meet with the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada - AIAC to discuss matters important to our vital aerospace sector. I look forward to continuing the dialogue with this sector that contributes over 24 billion per year to Canada’s GDP.

Today, the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada - AIAC, in partnership with Canadian Innovation, released the latest State of Canada’s Aerospace Industry Report.

“Despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada’s aerospace sector remains the most innovative manufacturing industry and a cornerstone of our economy. Our government has dedicated investments totalling $2 billion to help the aerospace sector recover. These investments will help the sector become more resilient, cleaner and greener while supporting the creation and maintenance of jobs and growth for decades to come,” said the Hon.François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.

“This is an industry that has shown tremendous commitment and resiliency while facing uncertainty and challenges that hit harder than for most other sectors. This latest data highlights the need for a renewed industry-government partnership through a national long-term strategy; one that leverages the strengths of our industry to ensure full recovery and job growth for decades to come. Our ability to recover and grow the industry in Canada requires a long-term vision and plan,” said Mike Mueller, President and CEO, AIAC.

L’Association des industries aérospatiales du Canada (AIAC), en partenariat avec Innovation, Sciences et Développement économique Canada (ISDE), a publié aujourd’hui le plus récent Rapport sur l’état de l’industrie aérospatiale au Canada.

« Malgré les perturbations causées par la pandémie de COVID-19, le secteur aérospatial du Canada reste l’industrie manufacturière la plus innovante et un pilier majeur de notre économie. Notre gouvernement a effectué des investissements ciblés qui totalisent 2 milliards de dollars pour soutenir la relance du secteur de l’aérospatiale. Ces investissements permettront au secteur de devenir plus résilient, plus propre et plus écologique, tout en soutenant la création d’emplois et le maintien en poste des travailleurs et en stimulant la croissance pour des décennies à venir », a déclaré le ministre de l’Innovation, des Sciences et de l’Industrie, l’honorable François-Philippe Champagne.

« Il s’agit d’une industrie qui a fait preuve d’un engagement et d’une résilience exemplaires alors qu’elle était frappée plus durement que la plupart des autres secteurs par l’incertitude et les défis. Les dernières données démontrent bien la nécessité de renouveler le partenariat entre l’industrie et le gouvernement au moyen d’une stratégie nationale à long terme; c’est-à-dire une stratégie qui tire parti des forces de notre industrie pour assurer une relance complète et la croissance de l’emploi pour des décennies à venir. Notre capacité à relancer l’industrie et à lui faire prendre de l’expansion au Canada nécessite une vision et un plan à long terme », a expliqué le président et chef de la direction de l’AIAC, Mike Mueller.

We are now in the next phase of this process. Work continues to shape a long-term vision & plan for a collaborative aerospace innovation network in Canada.

Industry insights, along with your continued participation, continue to play a key role as the Working Groups meet to develop a first draft of the overall report and recommendations around Business Model and Sustainability, Network and Governance, as well as IP Policies.

Over the summer, the Working Groups will make sure the information we’ve received is presented loud and clear in our report. We will reflect industry’s advice, concerns and insights.
