First on the schedule for our International Summer School was an Irish dancing class for our U.S. visitors to allow them to experience our Irish culture.
The students & staff from our four visiting institutions have now requested that Irish dancing is part of the daily schedule.

Thank you to Belfast Lord Mayor Cllr Mickey Murray for officially launching our International Summer School & providing a warm Belfast welcome to our visiting U.S. students.
The Lord Mayor embraced our International Summer School theme of “Building Peace through Dialogue” which, at a time when there is so much conflict in the world, is so very apt.
Part of peace building is very much founded on inclusion and celebration of diversity.
The Lord Mayor congratulated the staff from St Mary’s University, College on their efforts in delivering the highest standards of education to you all – it is inspiring to see the Summer School move from strength to strength in partnership with Féile an Phobail

A fantastic first day of Féile an Phobail debates & discussions. Over 700 people in St Mary's University College for the annual James Connolly Lecture passionately by Mick Lynch.
A privilege to also have Blinne Ní Ghralaigh in discussion with Padraig O Muirigh on Palestine as the first speaker to use our new College Hall.
Outstanding range of expert speakers taking part across the week.

St Mary's senior lecturer in history, Fearghal Mac Bhloscaidh, has recently published essays in two prestigious collections. His essay on the Workers' Union and Belfast Labour Party forms part of Four Court's Spirit of Revolution, edited by John Cunningham & Terry Dunne, and casts new light on anti-sectarian trade union militancy in the city and the Ulster Unionist leadership's key role in its destruction through the July 1920 workplace expulsions. Along with Brian Kelly from Queen's University's History Department, Fearghal has also co-authored a chapter in Desmond Bell and Liam O'Dowd's Northern Ireland Beyond 100, published by Cork University Press. This chapter widens the scope to assess partition's significance in concurrent counter-revolutions on both sides of the border, confirming James Connolly's grim prediction a half-decade earlier that the policy would herald 'a carnival of reaction' North and South.

Féile an Phobail at St Mary’s
Visitors to Féile events at St Mary University College next month will experience a transformed campus. Whether it is the venues for debates and discussions or displays of visual arts, or indeed a place to have some refreshments, it is all change at St Marys.
The Falls Road campus has a brand new tiered seating auditorium alongside a splendid courtyard. Exhibitions will be held in a new state of the art library and there is also the Beechmount Dining Hall which will be open throughout Féile. In addition, many of the other spaces, have been refurbished recently.
St Mary’s has been a venue for Féile activities since 1994 and it is an integral part of the west Belfast community. The College is committed to a high level of community engagement and everyone is welcome.

Student teachers from St Mary’s University College will participate in Project Tanzania for the second successive year.
They will work in a school in northern Tanzania on a month long placement and is an incredible opportunity for them to develop new skills that will benefit their future teaching careers. The project is a joint initiative with Strathroy Dairies. 📚🌍
