Another win for Queen's: Emilia Lye and Sarah Hair won the KLS-Thomson Reuters National Law Triathlon over the weekend! 🏆

The event entailed a Negotiation Round, an Urgent County Court Hearing, and a Final Hearing Moot, with over 20 representative teams competing from universities throughout the UK.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿: 𝟰 𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗙𝗧 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯-𝟮𝟰

The Committee is a branch of QUB Law Society, and works closely with the University's own Intervarsity Mooting Coordinator and Mooting Coach. In addition to facilitating the university's internal moots, the Committee supports the intervarsity team; assists with the provision of mooting workshops and other advocacy-related events; and promotes QUB's mooting successes via social media.

Congratulations to 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘃𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀 and 𝗔𝘂𝘃𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗵𝘂 who are currently representing QUB in the ESU-Essex Court Moot - the team will be proceeding to the Quarterfinals, following their recent wins!

The team won against University of Law Manchester on Monday, with Justice Elizabeth Nicholls of Manchester Crown Court presiding over this away match.
The team also won against Ulster University in February, presenting excellent submissions before Lord Justice Horner.

⚖️ 𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝘁 ⚖️

Well done to 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻 and 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗔𝘁𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻 who represented Queen's University at the Preliminary and Final rounds of the Southampton National Moot this year!

The team placed third out of the top 8 in the preliminary rounds in March, and delivered fantastic submissions during the Quarterfinal Round in April at Southampton County Court. Thank you to the team for the time and work invested in the competition.

Yesterday the finals of the Open Moot were held on campus and as usual the standard of advocacy was exceptionally high! 👩‍⚖️

Congratulations to the brilliant members of the mooting team, Dariya Mariya Petryshyn and Fallon Burns, who applied their hand at competitive client consultation yesterday and won the regional heats for Northern Ireland!

We're delighted to have them represent Northern Ireland in the Netherlands at the international finals, and very grateful to The Law Society of Northern Ireland for organising the regional heats and providing their support to the team.

QUB Team Wins Client Consultation Competition 2023

Fallon Burns and Dariya-Mariya Petryshyn from the Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) were celebrating this week after winning the regional heat of the Law Society of Northern Ireland’s Client Consultation Competition 2023.

The competition, which has been successfully run by the Law Society over the last number of years, provides law students and trainees with an opportunity to test their client communication and interview skills in scenarios judged by practising and former solicitors.

The theme of this year’s regional heat was Environmental Law and participating teams included:

Emily McGleenon and Hayley Robinson from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS)

Siobhan Moss and Jodie O’Reilly from the Ulster University Magee Campus

Kaitlin McCourt and Ciara McGreevy from the Ulster University Belfast Campus

Fallon Burns and Dariya-Mariya Petryshyn from the Queen’s University Belfast

The winning QUB team will now proceed to the final of the Louis M. Brown and Forrest S. Mosten International Client Consultation Competition which will take place at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands on 12 to 15 April 2023.

The winning school will receive a prize of £1,000 from the Law Society towards the travel costs.

We are very proud to share that Gordon and Fallon reached the semifinals of the competition, selected as the 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝟰 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 participating in the oral rounds of the competition.

The feedback received from judges was very complimentary throughout the rounds, reflecting the time and energy dedicated by our mooters.

We're thrilled to announce our first competition of the academic year, the Law Society Novice Moot 2022, will take place on 2nd-3rd November!

The competition is focused on those who are new to the sport, so it's open to any law student who has not mooted competitively in the UK before, irrespective of degree level or path.

Last night we held the final of the annual Open Moot at the UK Supreme Court, presided by Lord Stephens 👨‍⚖️

Congratulations to our winners, Maria Mavromatis and Auvneet Sidhu, as well as our runners-up, Kan Law and Chloe Yap. Special acknowledgement also goes to Kan who was awarded as best advocate of the Court 🏆👏
