COMPLETED! βœ…

Well that's Vietnam and Cambodia done, what an incredible experience.

The team I was with could not of been better, we bonded so quickly and encouraged us all right to the end.

The route through both countries took us along tar and mud roads, through towns and villages where all the locals would wave and say hello as we passed by πŸ‘‹πŸΌ πŸš΄πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

We passed rice fields, temples, war trenches and military memobilla! The heat was extremely hot each day, with a good down pour on one day making the route through the country very interesting.

We arrived back in LHR this morning so looking forward to deciding where the next adventure will be!

Thank you everyone for your support and donations - with your help we raised Β£2500 for British Heart Foundation πŸ˜„

THANK YOU!

Day 5 and our last cycling was mainly sightseeing but we completed 50k! With Gala dinner last night so not much time, now getting ready to leave hotel in a few hours for the airportπŸš²βœˆοΈπŸ‘

Day 4 - easily the toughest day so far! We went off road, the heat and humidity was on another level 😚🍻

Completed 80km today and what kept us going was the thought of a hotel pool at the end!

Day 3 - Completed βœ…

Best day so far and easily the hottest! 38 degrees, uncomfortable on occasions, but plenty of stops. Today was through Cambodia countryside, dirt tracks and local villages, kids greeting us while we passed temples and rice fields.

It rained in buckets for about 15mins but then cleared again!

58 miles today, now at the hotel at Kampong on the Mekong River... Brilliant room and view, might even have different food to rice and chicken!! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸš΄πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄

Day 2 - Completed 54 miles in 37 degrees! Regular water stops very 8miles so all good.

We 1st cycled to Temple for a visit and the onto the Cambodia border and the Vietnamese are really friendly! All the kids are so happy cheering and waving as we cycle through their towns. πŸ˜„

At the border we said goodbye to our Vietnamese guide and bike team once into Cambodia. Then 25 miles of passing cows grazing everywhere, kids running up as we pass and horns blasting from lorries, cars and scotters!

It’s time for a rest in the hotel now ready for a well earned beer! πŸ‘πŸš²πŸ˜š

DAY 1 - Great 50mile ride today mostly roads!

Started at the tunnel which was an amazing experience, completely told the true story on the Vietnam war!

The locals were great fun waving and cheering - not a bad way to start the adventure πŸ‘πŸ˜„

Hi all! I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support.

I will be challenging myself on this 9-day adventure to some of South East Asia’s most famous landmarks. Over 5 days of cycling, I will be passing remote villages, paddy fields, the mighty Mekong, ancient temples, bustling cities, and experience the deep history of this incredible region raising money for the British Heart Foundation.

Five years ago I suffered a heart attack cycling up Caerphilly mountain while competing in the Cardiff Velothon - I spent time in the Neville Hall, Abergavenny and finally received the operation at the Heath Hospital, where I had a stent fitted. I have been active all my life, ex-footballer, athlete and cyclist, and as far as I was concerned nothing like that was going to happen to me!

As a member of Dinas Powys Rotary Club, I have for a number of years raised monies for various charities by arranging or competing in charity events, in fact I organised a cycle event from Calais to Bruges for our club members raising Β£11,000 for Prostrate Cancer Cymru back in 2019 - however this event will be greatest challenge to date.

Recently a very good friend of mine and member of Dinas Powys Rotary Club, tragically died of a massive heart attack at his home - he was very active, ex-professional football, local cricket player and was still active in crown and indoor bowling.

I wanted to give myself another challenge and to choose The British Heart Foundation and raise as much monies as I can for my chosen charity will be a privilege and an honour and a memory to my good friend Dougie.

The British Heart Foundation has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. Β£24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
