Attaching your hopes and happiness on losing weight making you happier will only disappoint you

A bit s**t to read but hear me out

The end goal is great once you’ve achieved it

But once you’ve gone to sleep that night

It rarely lasts past that…

This is not saying don’t bother

This is saying, chasing a number forever will only frustrate you

Instead have periods of focus

And then switch into more lifestyle mode where you learn to enjoy the process

Enjoy making yourself feel good

By getting stronger

By fuelling your body so you feel healthier and more energetic

By loving your body a little bit more (or hating it a little bit less)

Motivation doesn’t just grow on trees (sadly)

Action creates it

So here’s the solution I’ve designed for this very situation

Taking the slow road is usually faster than taking the shortcut…

You ever been stuck in traffic and decide to go “f*** it”

And take a different route

And it’s definitely 5-10 minutes longer

But you feel like it’s not because you’re doing something?

That’s what short cuts are like in weight loss

They feel like the right thing to do

But they’re actually counter productive

Instead id suggest taking it slower

Building week upon week

A few habits week one

Bit of exercise week two

Dial it in week 3-4

Then you’re flowing

You’re moving

You feel like you can do this

And guess what?

You want to do more

And as a result

You lose even more weight than expected

You feel better than you thought you would

Why?

Cuz motivation comes from action not the other way round

And with summer drawing to a close

Taking your time

Accepting life is always gonna have something that “interrupts” your goals

Riding the rollercoaster

But staying as consistent and mindful as you can

It may seem slower

But it’s actually faster

So skip the chia seed water

Or any other bo****ks for that matter

Also, be more like Yusef Dukic

Just do the work

Get the support you need to do it

The support is what makes doing the work that much easier

I felt so stressed about taking time off from the gym and relaxing that I almost wasted my holiday, so I reminded myself of this

If you’re currently on holiday or enjoying some down time, just remember

It’s okay to…

- eat more than normal

- move a bit less

- feel a bit uncomfortable not doing your normal routine

- want to get back to normal

Amongst many other negative feelings, these are perfectly normal thoughts to have

Of course if it’s to the point of being obsessive and you can’t detach from it

That’s something else entirely

But having these thoughts is okay as long as you can acknowledge them and then focus back on the present

As someone who lives with anxiety, it’s so easy to live in the future and the ‘what if’

This creates a disconnect and often can lead to disappointment or stress

So it’s important to recognise the reality

Ask yourself

How much will this actually impact things in the long run?

Realistically, with holidays, sick days and festivities we all probably have 10ish weeks off a year

That’s 42 weeks still where we’re on the ball

If you look at it from this angle

You realise you have more control

This is exactly how I refocus myself

I’m on holiday at the moment and it’s exactly what I’m doing as I miss my routine

But I’m also being present about what experiences I’m having right now

So I don’t wish them away and actually enjoy the memories I’m creating

Be gentle with yourself

It’s something I teach all my clients

In light of me calling a certain trend bullsh** this morning

Here’s some actually useful advice you can implement today or tomorrow so give it a save

It’ll “snatch your waist” if you do it long enough as well 👀

But seriously

Stop focusing on eating less food

Focus on eating good quality foods

This allows you to eat a bigger volume of food

Keeps you fuller

And allows room for treats and things you enjoy

So you don’t want to headbutt the wall everyday 🤷🏽‍♂️

I’m all on team eat whatever you like and make it fit your goals

But I know there’s some ballbags out there screaming about sugar

And how living your life without sugar

And happiness is actually a better way of living 🥲

I mean looking good doesn’t matter that much 🥲

But also…

You can have a ice cream and still achieve your goals

But if you’re looking a lower calorie option

All of these are under the 150-200 calorie mark

Some even under the 100 calorie mark

So get eating on this wonderful fine and sunny day ☀️

And make sure you give it a save for when your next wanting a wee treat ❤️

The flexible approach to training and nutrition is what is gonna work for you over summer…

How many people give up (or feel they might as well give up) when summer hits? 🙋🏽‍♂️

The kids are off, you’ve got to entertain them, keep em busy, stop them arguing, all while doing everything you were already doing before

There’s no chance in hell you’re making that 1-2-1 PT session

Or hitting 3-4 sessions in the gym

But why are you trying to force this when you can use my spectrum method?

My spectrum method is simple.

You have your best and worst days at either end.

What you can/can’t do in both these scenarios

I then plan training and nutritional strategies you can use based on which area of the spectrum you’re on

Normally you’ve got the time to track calories and protein

But now?

Why not try hand portion sizing to keep portions in check

Still too much?

Simple photo diary with one nutritional goal e.g. 4-7 fruit and veg

If you can have multiple options for keeping your training and nutrition in check

You’ll have a 100% success rate

Cuz you never gave up.

That’s the only way you don’t make progress

I did this with my client Gemma recently as she’s been struggling with low energy due to a medical condition

We kept her moving using lower intensity methods

So she didn’t feel like she was failing

And that’s all it needs to be

But that’s also why I think you need support

Because you don’t have a knowledge issue

You have an application problem

You find it hard to do what you need.

There’s more to life than hating yourself for not looking the way you want

Beating yourself up every day is exhausting

You’re never a good enough parent

You’re never a good enough partner

You never can stick to anything

But I want you to think about how exhausting that is

But also how you’re living in the future or the past

You’re not present

My motivation and energy to keep going to the gym is low

Im accepting this is a phase

This is temporary

HOW YOU COULD BE MY NEXT SUCCESS STORY 👏🏽

Naomi has just finished my 10 week summer program

She joined because she had lost confidence and felt like she wasn’t happy with how she looked anymore

“It feels like my time doesn’t belong to me…”

I bet you’ve felt this statement one of my clients said to me.

Sure, you probably live and breathe it.

I don’t buy into this BS that we all have the same 24 hours

I know first hand from working with mums for 10 years that it’s not the case

But the mums that actually achieve something and manage to make a change

They do this one, small thing and you can too…

They do ONE small behaviour every day that aligns to their goals

Because 2 steps forward and 1 step back is still 1 step forward

Waiting for the right time to start is just guaranteeing you never take a step forward

Which is why you feel stuck

Almost paralysed sometimes

But you have the control

You just have to shift your mindset from doing 5 days of 90 minute sessions in the gym

With only clean eating

And no alcohol ever

To smaller achievable goals

One less glass of wine this weekend is a good start

A mile everyday

It doesn’t matter what

You pick one thing

You’ve probably spent the majority of your life trying to lose weight

I get it

There’s a lot of painful reasons why you want to lose weight

But I know for a fact losing it isn’t an issue

You’ve done this before

It’s Friday or you’re away for a few nights holiday

You have the drinks, and the food, and just enjoy the craic

Why wouldn’t you?

You deserve it!

But then you get back and that guilt hits you like a bat in the face…

“HOW HAVE I GAINED 5ibs?!?!?”

Then you spiral

Convinced your fat

Wondering how you’re gonna make up for it

Gonna cut the calories, for for 2 walks a day

And punish yourself In the gym to top it off

But there’s a problem…

That f**king sucks

And it makes you want to go f**k it more often

So this cycle repeats

So if I’ve described you here’s what you need to do and get masterful at

Steadying the ship

Picking up at the earliest opportunity, and no that doesn’t mean Monday…

The next meal, just eat something semi normal

Don’t overthink it

And if you normally walk in the evening?

Do that.

Do what you normally do

Master this.

And understand the weight you gained isn’t fat

It’s a combo of water from extra carbs, salt and alcohol

Probably a bit of p**p as well

The only way it’ll be fat is if you give up and think what’s the point

But I understand that can be hard

Because you’re human, and life is for living but you can also achieve your goals

Losing weight is simple but not easy

Mainly cuz we play it all down to motivation and being perfect

2 things for which I am NOT 99% of the time

And I bet you’re the same

But the difference between me and you?

I’ve spent years changing how I speak to myself

Why did it take so long?

Cuz I didn’t have help

That’s why I want to help you

Because when you have that takeaway this weekend

You’ll likely tell yourself “you’ve f***ed it” or “you always fail”

And the funny thing is, the only reason this happens is because you’re telling yourself that

Self fulfilling prophecy is its fancy name

If you say you are something or will do something, you’re more likely to do it

Positive or negative actions

So why don’t we use that to your advantage

“I’m gonna enjoy the living daylights out of this pizza”

“And then I’m gonna get in my pyjamas, watch some Netflix and go to bed happy”

It sounds cheesy

It is

But it works

Tell yourself what you want to do

What aligns with your goals

Don’t say it out loud, people will think you’re a bit crazy

Trust me, I know 😂

But seriously, change the way you speak in these moments and you’ll have a much more successful weekend

And you know what?

You’ll lose more weight than you ever before with this one simple fix
