Optimal breathing relies on proper postural alignment, a tension-free diaphragm, a flexible rib cage, a responsive core, and an uncongested neck. This NEW workshop invites you to explore these crucial aspects of breath, encouraging a deeper dive into your breathing patterns through different myofascial release techniques, pranayama and bandha.
Combining Myofascial Meridians, Traditional Chinese Acupuncture Meridians, as well as Yoga of the Subtle Body, Rolling in the Deep workshops are designed to explore your unconscious โblind-spotsโ; unravelling common postural habits, symptoms of misuse, and how our โissuesโ are carried in our tissues, becoming postural patterns over time. If you have a few hours this conversation is an absolute treat for yogis who have an interest in seeing the link between physicality, psychology, spirituality and the philosophical foundations of yoga as 'union'.
Listen carefully for the Easter eggs of Sir Iain mentioning Atman and Brahman, Tao, Yin & Yang, the necessary tension between coincidental opposites, the entire background of why we exist, and how matter is actually just a phase of consciousness itself... It's truly wonderful.
As an interesting side note I find it amusing that pseudo-intellectual (and left-hemisphere dominant) grifters around the periphery of the yoga world (I'm looking at you Matthew Remski, Conspirituality et al) would have you believe that JP (and by extension this conversion) is pseudo-intellectual nonsense. This is a perfect example, as Iain so expertly outlines, of how the left-hemisphere grasps for certainly, universal morality and wants to cast 'goodies' and 'baddies'. Just as with the snake that eats its own tail, it leaves them embodying the very thing they were actually trying to fight against.

๐๐ป Exploring & Developing the Internal Foundations of Ashtanga Yoga
At the heart of Ashtanga Yoga practice is the dialogue between internal alignment (breath and bandha) and external postural alignment (asana). This is essentially what we are practicing (whether we realise it or not) each time we get on our yoga mat. Although the mind is normally scattered and the body feels disjointed and clumsy, when yoga poses are well-aligned, they can feel so good internally that the mind is practically stunned into awe! The key to achieve this is to integrate the two subtle internal patterns that govern inhaling and exhaling. These are called prana (upward spreading breath) and apana (downward contracting breath). By binding together these opposing forces (pranayama) we open up the central axis of the body, awakening a natural inner radiance and establishing a innate sense for โgoodโ alignment for our postures. This unifying internal practice is known as 'mula bandha', and is a keystone of hatha yoga practice.
This weekend workshop will practically explore and philosophically contextualise these foundational principles, transforming your practice of Ashtanga yoga.
