Congratulations, Carl!

The 2024 Niki Marangou PhD Dissertation Prize has been awarded to Carl Mauzy of King’s College London for “Partial exposures: photography and the visualization of Greek collective identities”.

In the judges’ words, Mr Mauzy’s “exploration of two important corpora of photographs, set within a wider discussion of how national identities are visualized and in turn curated, engages enterprisingly with important questions of individual and collective memory, with special reference to the role played by photography, and opens new avenues for research”.

The prize is awarded annually by the Society of Modern Greek Studies for the best dissertation completed on a Modern Greek topic in the UK. The judges for the 2024 prize were Professor Charilaos Exertzoglou (University of the Aegean), Professor Maria A. Stassinopoulou (University of Vienna), and Professor Emeritus David Ricks (King’s College London) (in the chair).

Warmest thanks to Vyron Karydis for the wonderful review in The Books' Journal, and to David Schermerhorn for his collaboration all through the publication process. And those boxes?
