This last week has been upsetting for me as an advisor. Two separate clients, both parents, both desperate to provide protection for themselves and their children, both with health conditions which allow them to work; yet I couldn't obtain cover for either of them.

Both clients now see the value in insurance and regret not putting it in place sooner. I felt dreadful giving them the news that despite asking every provider on my panel, it was a no.

Please don't wait until its too late for you and your family, before appreciating the true value of protection cover.

Another desperately sad situation and a learning point for us all.

Jonnie, who many of us have enjoyed watching on screen for years, and who should be in his prime, is spending his last months of life worrying about finances for his family.

When you have an advisor who thinks of protecting you and your family (not just the mortgage company!) if the the worst happens, you can avoid this situation. Illness cover is more expensive to have than life insurance alone, there is no shying away from this. Why? Because the statistics show there is an even greater chance that you might actually need it and claim on it! I'm not a gambling woman. I'm not willing to bet my family's financial security on the chance that I'm the lucky 1 in 2 who won't get cancer and have to take time out of work. Are you?

It's been a very special day for me, as not only did David Pill at The Financial Guys and I provide well-received Financial Wellbeing presentations to two groups of staff, and meet with many employees to kick-start getting their Wills and financial healthcheck appointments set up - the organisation we were working with was Mental Health Concern who run the Briarwood carehome my Mam was wonderfully cared for at over the last 5 years of her life. It was a full-circle moment for me as living with dementia in my 20s is very much my "Why" as to what I do today. I'm so thrilled to be working with this Charity and look forward to continue giving something back to their staff over the coming months and years.
