Great design thinking
Here is one of our workshop tools in action. It’s a flat bed three axis router. Great for making large 3D forms. This is scaled model of Wanaka that was cut today.
If you have time this week please come into The HUB at Otago Polytechnic and see our students design work from semester one. Also have a look at the bright new talent on the way from across the region as we head into Celebrate Design and award emerging secondary school designers this Friday.
Great design thinking. If you think outside the square, maybe your a product designer like us. Changing ideas starts with a sketch.
Get your ideas on paper and get them to us for Celebrate Design competition running this month for secondary schools students with great ideas. For more information email [email protected]

Our Chief Executive, Phil Ker, is welcoming the Government's revamped plan for vocational education reform, saying he can see opportunities for Otago Polytechnic.
“We are now in the first stages of moving into an entirely new vocational education system – and one that has picked up on all of the key points that Otago Polytechnic put forward in our submission," he says.
He acknowledges there will be "devil in the detail", but says Otago Polytechnic intends to be an active player in working to shape the future system.
“What is clear is that it is business as usual until April 1 2020 and, after that, most likely business as usual for at least another two years," he notes. "Prospective learners can enrol in multi-year programmes with confidence, knowing they will graduate as Otago Polytechnic students and have access to all the student support that we currently offer."

To understand design, how designers reference, understand context, expand ideas is complicated. This week is a fantastic festival to allow you hear from other perspectives in time and place about their design process and values.
Must do activities this week. Get along to the Rialto and see as many design stories you can. Buy tickets early, check out possible discounts for buying several tickets also as this is common for film festivals.
