👨🏻‍⚕️Dr Allen Wong, Consultant, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Services at SKH, shared that lymphoedema can lead to severe swelling known as "elephantiasis" if not addressed. At SKH's Community Health Fair on 31 August 2024 which focused on educating attendees about various health conditions, Dr Allen Wong emphasised that lymphoedema often occurs following breast cancer surgery and results in limb swelling.

During a health talk held at the fair, Dr Wong explained the progression of lymphoedema from early, unnoticed symptoms to advanced, severe swelling and highlighted the importance of both surgical and non-surgical treatment for effective management and improved quality of life.

✨ Meet Dr Png Wenxian, our Consultant from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, who dived deep into foot and ankle surgery during his recent overseas Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) journey. His passion for deformity correction and arthroplasty shines through in every step he takes. Read his inspiring experience and see how he's elevating our healthcare! 🙌

“During my HMDP from November 2023 to May 2024 in Manchester, United Kingdom, I went with a team consisting Dr Feng Jiajun, Consultant, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetics Service, Dilys Quek, Senior Staff Nurse, and Kimberly Leow, Senior Podiatrist, as part of our hospital’s Diabetic Limb Salvage multidisciplinary service. This service focuses on treating diabetic foot ulcers, deformity correction, wound care and related issues to prevent limb amputation.

Training at Manchester University NHS Trust, renowned for expertise in deformities and diabetic complications, allowed us to learn from a successful multidisciplinary team. I participated in complex deformity correction surgeries salvaging feet at risk of amputation, making them shoeable and functional.

This experience reminded me that our work as surgeons is not just about advancing our skills for ourselves but for our patients. Sometimes, even small sacrifices on our part can make a significant difference in a patient’s life.”
