Day 1 of our 2-Day Seminar, "Invitation to Expand Your Expertise: Disaster Risk Reduction," unfolded yesterday at Hano Technical University.

Engaging Opening: The seminar began with an illuminating discussion on defining disasters and participants' perspectives on Disaster Risk Management (DRM).

Prevention vs. Mitigation: We explored the critical difference between prevention and mitigation, shedding light on comprehensive strategies to avoid adverse impacts and minimize effects.

Interactive Q&A: Participants actively contributed suggestions and comments. The question of evacuation during disasters was addressed, emphasizing innovative solutions for disaster preparedness.

Climate Change and Regional Variances: The impact of climate change on disasters was discussed, highlighting differences between disaster risks faced by regional and rural populations.

Noteworthy Example: A case study on Mogadishu showcased flood prevention strategies, including the recommendation to avoid the Shabelle River for 500 km and innovative approaches to managing heavy rainfall.
