Numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening in the areas below. Locally heavy downpours may lead to ponding of water in urban and low lying areas, especially for areas that see repeated storms. Gusty winds may lead to some isolated wind damage.

🌧️ Update: Heavy rainfall possible through Tuesday morning in Southern Tier, Central NY, Mohawk Valley, Capital Region, Mid-Hudson and NYC. Locally heavy rain rates up to 1.5" per hour. Potential for flash flooding.
Scattered showers and slow-moving thunderstorms could produce locally heavy downpours this afternoon into
tonight. Ponding of water on roadways or other low-lying areas will be possible from repeated showers or heavier storms.There is a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall which may result in isolated instances of flash flooding, most likely across the Southern Tier and adjacent Catskills.

DHSES teams still on the ground supporting communities affected by recent tornadoes and severe weather. This image from the Town of Edinburg on Tuesday, where US National Weather Service Albany NY confirmed EF-1 tornado that covered over a ½ mile, with wind speeds estimated at 110 mph.
Neighbors helping neighbors. At the request of New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services , the Thruway’s Syracuse Divison Highway Support unit transported a large generator today to a local nursing home in that was impacted by Tuesday's .
DHSES staff recently toured the towns of Arietta and Wells by following the path of a tornado that felled thousands of trees.
We provided drone support to help assess the damages and determine the strength and size of the storm working closely with Hamilton County Sheriff's Office NY, Hamilton County Emergency Services, New York State Department of Transportation and the US National Weather Service Albany NY.
Dangers remain even after a storm has passed. When picking up leftover debris, make sure to follow these simple tips to stay safe:
🦺 Wear protective clothing.
🚩 Be aware of your surroundings and AVOID downed wires.
🔥 Never burn debris; it can be toxic.

Today, Governor Kathy Hochul announces that 'we're not done yet' as mother nature has more in store for NYS.
There are still severe weather advisories across NYS for thunderstorms and heat with the potential for damaging winds and flash flooding until Wednesday evening.

Even after a severe storm ends, the threat of danger remains. Take precautions and stay safe by following these safety tips:

🔺 Beware of hazards: Avoid fallen power lines, poles, and wires – report sightings to utility companies immediately.
🔺 Assess your home for damage: contact your insurance providers to make a claim
Another ⚠️ severe thunderstorm watch is in effect today with the potential for all severe weather types.
Thunderstorms are dangerous storms that can produce 50+ mph winds, lightning, hail and cause flash flooding and tornadoes.

Enhanced Risk for severe weather today in Central NY, Mohawk Valley, the Capital Region, and the North Country that will include damaging wind gusts and scattered thunderstorms. These storms are expected to begin developing in the late morning hours in Western NY and will be moving eastward through the State through the late afternoon.

Severe storms expected to arrive within the next 1-2 hours, moving west to east. Severe Thunderstorm Watch for counties west of I-81 through 7 PM. Stay safe and stay indoors.
There's increasing confidence that an area of strong thunderstorms will move across the area this afternoon and evening. These may produce damaging wind gusts greater than 60 mph, and heavy downpours. Be prepared to take cover if threatening weather approaches.
