All GSU law students are assigned a personal librarian, so come meet yours at one of two events this week and next.

Tonight, evening law students are invited to Room 245 for a quick snack and chat before their evening classes!

Next week, all law students are invited to the atrium for a cupcake reception!

The Law Library will be hosting eight ALERT sessions this semester, on four different topics. ALERT sessions are workshops that focus on legal research and technology. Mark your calendars!

We are back to our regular hours for the fall semester.

Did someone say Day of Service?

The law library is all set up for the College of Law’s Day of Service Letter Writing opportunity! From today through Tuesday, feel free to stop by, write a letter (or two!) for these organizations, and place completed letters in the labeled boxes (no need for envelopes). Happy writing!

It’s day! In Atlanta, the eclipse will last from 1:45pm-4:21pm, with peak visibility at 3:04pm when up to 85% of the sun will be covered by the moon! Join us out on the 6th floor terrace at 2:30pm to view it together. We will have glasses available at 2:30pm at the event.

It’s National Poetry Month! To celebrate, the library is hosting a ‘Find the Poem’ contest. Head over to our instagram page every Wednesday for clues on where the poem is hidden. Happy hunting!

For the final day of Black History Month, we recognize the Black legal leaders of today who are continuing the legacy of their predecessors. Read more about each leader in the most recent Blackacre Times post, written by Sydney Hamilton (1L). The link is in the comments.

Sydney is featured here in the second photograph, and has worked tirelessly to research, create, write, display, and honor the featured Black legal figures this month. Awesome job, Sydney!

Happy Leap Day! To celebrate this once-every-four-years occurrence, the library has set out pens, paper and envelopes for students to write a letter to their future selves — to be mailed one year from today! Drop in to the 5th floor anytime today and write yourself a letter.

Our third legal figure we are featuring this is Charles Hamilton Houston! From mentoring Thurgood Marshall to paving the way for Brown v. Happy Valentine’s Day! Stop by the 5th floor today to speed date with some of our favorite study aids. Learn what makes each study aid unique and how they can work with your study needs. Even better, after every “date,” you will get a Valentine’s candy! Don’t worry — they’re here for the right reasons.

This week, the library continues our celebration of legal figures in Black history with Pauli Murray! Murray was a legal scholar, author, theorist, and activist for civil rights and gender equality, whose authored works inspired the likes of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Thurgood Marshall. The first figure the library will be spotlighting is: Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Justice on the United States Supreme Court.

To celebrate Black History Month, each week of February, the law library will spotlight a different Black law figure throughout history and their contributions to the legal field. There will be displays on the 5th floor library as well as blog posts on The Blackacre Times where you can learn more about each figure. Keep an eye on our upcoming posts to see who is featured!
