ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:
Friends of Second Chance, the following are our requirements for adoption: must be at least 21 years, an application and a personal interview are required, most dogs require a fenced yard, all pets in the home must be up-to-date on vaccines and must be spayed or neutered, previous pet ownership is preferred for most dogs and must have good vet history, and a live or virtual home visit will be conducted. Based on our years of experience, these guidelines have proven to produce the desired outcome for the dogs in our care. Although not all, many of the dogs in rescue have come from a history of neglect and abuse and as a private, no-kill foster-based rescue, we have the privilege of selecting, in our opinion, the best environment possible in hopes of insuring a safe and loving FOREVER home. Our methods may not be for everyone and we are happy to refer you to another wonderful rescue that may not have the same policies as there are many hard-working groups trying to get deserving dogs adopted. We ARE Second Chance Dog Rescue and we work hard to give the dogs we rescue a true SECOND CHANCE at a safe and loving forever home. We are asking for your help with medical expenses for Peanut, a 15 yr old male Chihuahua, and Reba, an 8 yr old female Rat Terrier Mix, surrendered by their owner at our local open intake shelter. Their mom cried as she signed them over to the shelter but she had no choice since she was moving into a care facility that did not allow her to bring her dogs. We got the call from the shelter and picked them up, knowing their age and condition might make them unadoptable. We took them to our vet for spay and neuter, annual vaccines, microchips, dentals, heartworm and flea & tick prevention, and treatment for hookworms. Please help us by donating toward these expenses. Our hearts would not let us leave them behind and if anyone should have a heart for seniors and may possibly want to adopt, they will be completely vetted and ready for their forever homes. Cha Cha is a 3 yr old, 9.5 lb. female Chiweenie, spayed microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, f***l and heartworm negative. Cha Cha was found lying on the ground out in a rural area, scared and unclaimed. She is slowly coming out of her shell in her foster home but she is still a little timid. She needs a safe place to land, a patient, gentle owner. Not yet kid tested but she would probably do best in an adult only home as busy children might make her nervous. She is a devoted, loving dog. Socially awkward might be a good description. These pics were taken early, when she first came to us. Now she looks more confident, tail curled up, ears erect. She's really a good girl but may take a little time to warm up. Good vetting history, a completely and securely fenced yard, and a live or virtual home visit is required for approval.

Barbie is an 8 yr old female Chihuahua MIx, 10 lbs, spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines and currently being treated for heartworms by slow-kill, which consists of 28 days of antibiotics (Doxycycline) and consistent monthly doses of Advantage Multi/Imoxi. She is a sweetheart, loving with people, good with other dogs. Barbie was already in labor when we pulled her from LPAS and has been a loving mama dog to not only her babies but to the other mama's babies. This girl will make a loving companion dog for the right owner. Good vetting history, a completely and securely fenced yard, and a live or virtual home visit is required for approval. Whitney is a 2 yr old, 16 lb., female Rat Terrier Mix, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm faint positive, f***l negative, and microchipped. She's playful good with other dogs but she likes to play hard! Probably not good with cats but hasn't been tested. She is a little skittish with new people but will warm up given a little time, patience and love. She was on the street over a year and was finally captured with a single puppy. Whitney would probably be best in an adult only home at this time, not because she is aggressive but because she is skittish and could be a flight risk with kids. Rocket is a 2 y/o 25 lb. male Schnauzer Mix, neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. He did test positive for heartworms but at his most recent recheck the result was FAINT POSITIVE!!! He is people friendly and good with other dogs. Not fully tested but seems to be potty trained. Good vet history, a securely fenced yard (at least a 6 ft wooden fence as he is an escape artist!), and a live or virtual home visit is required for approval.
