I love supporting artists and surrounding myself (and my clients) with pieces that evoke all kinds of feels. Good medicine! This week, we had some new artwork hung at the office by our brilliant contractor. I watched this piece by Candice Luter for some months, and finally gifted the clinic with it (and another one of her works - one for the foot of the stairs, and another for the top of the stairs).

Since having kids, I love getting dressed for work. Literally the only time I can be bold enough to@wear a white shirt, lol.

A long weekend in fact. Four days even.

I gave Wren her first haircut today. 💜

She is no longer obsessed w being like Rapunzel, and wants to be like her mama. 👯‍♂️

I couldn’t bring myself to cut her hair as short as I cut mine, but she’s still happy.

Now that she has bangs and can see, hoping she’s less accident prone. 😎🤞🏼

Grandma Judith is Raven and Wren’s surrogate grandmother. And unexpectedly, a surrogate mom to me and my partner. Mother wounds, anyone?

We met Judith two years ago on Nextdoor of all places. She posted about wanting to “adopt grandkids” as it was clear that her adult son would not be having children for her to grand mother. And she loves kids.

I almost never read Nextdoor, too much drama. But I get those top post alerts. It randomly caught my eye and I clicked on it. She received over 400!! responses to her post, and turned off commenting. She decided to send messages to the first and last people who wanted to make contact.

I was the last.

Why did I comment? It was an impulsive decision.

I don’t have living bio family, and my partner is going through an estranged period in his life. I wasn’t necessarily feeling loss or lack, the idea of free babysitting is probably what hooked me in, lol.

She sent her number and I called her right away. I knew I would lose the nerve if I didn’t. It was a great convo!

I told Eric about it that night, hoping he would be onboard. His exact words were, “this sounds like the start of a really bad horror movie.” But he was game.

Immediately upon meeting, Raven threw herself into Judith’s lap for cuddles. There were tears all around, this sense of joy that it was a good connection, and grief over the now obvious wounds around loss and lack.

Over the last two years, Judith has been involved, consistent, and nothing short of caring. She picks up our girls once per week from school, takes them on adventures, and has truly become a part of our family. She is an incredibly generous person who has made life changing contributions to our family’s life on many levels. ❤️

About Judith…

She is a retired women’s studies professor who left her career in academia to pursue her love of tango dancing (she has a flat in Argentina and spends stretches there multiple times per year). She is a social justice advocate, avid book group member, and plays pickle ball most days.

Happy Mother’s Day Judith - we love you, and are so blessed we adopted each other. ❤️

Meet Dolly - the sweeeeetest little cat!

Raven and Wren made up this game they call “Dolly” where one drags the other around the house by their wrist pretending she’s a doll, and it’s just hilarious to watch.

Dolly recently had kittens and is about nine weeks postpartum. (ie, she has big bo***es).

We love her so much. ❤️❤️❤️

It’s been an insanely busy couple of days, in the good way. Grateful I took a three day weekend, and I got onnnnnne day left before I am back to wearing all the hats a small business owner wears.

(But do we ever take them off?!)

It was great to attend Under One Roof today and meet in person some of the artists whose makes I collect.

Waiting for my baby daddy to pick me up - grateful we turned it into a day trip w all the kiddos, AND I got some time to indulge in living out some of my fan girl fantasies. 🥰

Y’all, it’s official. I’m giving up…

WORKING WEEKENDS! 😅😍😛

I had to let a staff member go a couple of months ago, and since then, I’ve been picking up the slack, as you do when you are a small business owner.

(And I haven’t had the bandwidth to hire someone else. Still recovering and integrating lessons over here.)

But more.

As a woman, I’ve been culturally conditioned to be more accommodating of other’s needs than I am of my own.

It takes effort and focus to do the opposite of what comes more naturally to me.

It’s also not a legacy I want to pass on to my two daughters.

So with that… I’m giving up working weeeknds! ❤️

I need to fill my own cup so I can overflow, filling yours.

Come see me at that clinic Monday through Friday!

I’ll be there for you.

And on the weekends, I’ll be hanging out with my girls, Raven and Wren.

I love giving acupuncture facials, but more, I love holding space for people as they talk to me about their own experience of aging.

The vulnerability we all feel - you are not alone.

It’s not “vain” to care about how you look as you age.

I want you to feel confident, and beautiful, and accept yourself just as you are. (That’s the real work.)
