Phi Sigma Pi at UC Berkeley

Scholarship. Leadership. Fellowship. The Delta Omega Chapter was reactivated on December 2, 2015.

In September 2016, the Chapter agreed to include the word “Sister” every time “Brother” was used in the Constitution, social media, presentations, or everyday conversation in hopes of following up on the recent terminology change from “co-ed” to “gender inclusive” in Chapters nationwide. Delta Omega is the first Chapter to initiate this change and continues to find ways to be more inclusive while progressing this Local Chapter to reflect the progressiveness respected throughout UC Berkeley.

General information

Phi Sigma Pi (ΦΣΠ) was founded on February 14, 1916 by Dr. Eldo L. Hendricks, Dr. Claude A. Phillips, and Dr. C. H. McClure at State Teachers College (known today as the University of Central Missouri) in Warrensburg, Missouri.

The Fraternity became National when the Gamma Chapter was installed at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, and soon the first National Council was created in 1925. In 1945, the first female Brother, Helen Wilson, was inducted to the Kappa Chapter as an honorary Member. Women were eligible to join after the Title IX of the Education Amendments was passed in 1977.

Currently, Phi Sigma Pi has over 152 Chapters nationwide, including 135 Collegiate Chapters and 17 Alumni Chapters/Associations. With about 6000 undergraduate and 48,000 alumni members, we hope to continue expanding across the nation.
