Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Join us for Mass at 12:10pm in English, 4:30pm in Spanish and 6:00pm in Haitian Creole. A live stream of the 12:10pm Mass will be available, learn more: www.bostonsbasilica.com/olphfeast

This feast invites us to contemplate the profound love and intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, particularly through the veneration of the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

The icon itself is rich with symbolism and spiritual significance. Depicting the Mother of God holding the Child Jesus, who is shown looking at the instruments of His Passion, the image reminds us of Mary's role as a source of comfort and hope in times of distress. Her serene yet concerned expression reflects her perpetual help to all who seek her intercession, guiding us towards her Son with unwavering love.

Reflecting on this feast, we are called to deepen our understanding of Mary's constant presence in our lives. Here are some ways to engage in meaningful reflection:

Contemplate the Icon: Spend time in front of the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, either in person or through an image. Reflect on the details and symbolism within the icon, considering what each element reveals about Mary's role in our salvation and her compassionate care for us.

Scripture Meditation: Meditate on passages from Scripture that highlight Mary's faith, her cooperation with God's will, and her maternal care. Reflecting on the Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38), the Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-12), and the Crucifixion (John 19:25-27) can deepen our appreciation of Mary's perpetual help.

Acts of Charity: Honor Our Lady by engaging in acts of charity and kindness. As Mary is a model of selfless love and compassion, we too can strive to embody these virtues in our interactions with others, particularly those in need.

By engaging in these reflections, we open our hearts to the grace and comfort that Our Lady of Perpetual Help offers. Her unwavering support encourages us to face life's challenges with faith and hope, knowing that she intercedes for us before her Son.

As we celebrate this feast, let us renew our devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, trusting in her guidance and embracing her loving presence in our lives. May her perpetual help lead us ever closer to Christ and inspire us to be vessels of His love and mercy in the world.

A funeral Mass for Father Philip Anthony Cabasino will be offered this Saturday, October 16th at 10:00am. From 1977 to 2019 he was stationed here in our Boston Redemptorist community. Fr. Cabasino served the people of the parish and also served as civilian chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts.

Fr. Cabasino died on July 1, 2020, just a few weeks shy of his 100th birthday. He was born on July 26, 1920 in Corona, New York, to Louis and Mary (Tatsock). Baptized at Our Lady of Sorrows in Corona, he was later confirmed at St. Anastasia’s in Douglaston, New York. He came to the Redemptorists from his family home in Little Neck, Long Island, and attended St. Mary’s Minor Seminary at North East, Pennsylvania, between 1939 and 1940.

Father Cabasino’s early ministry was in two parishes: Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Tampa, Florida (1947-1949), and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, New York (1949-1956). He served as an Army chaplain for 20 years (1956-1976), rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
