His name is Damar Hamlin. He wears # 3 for the Buffalo Bills. He almost died on a cold night in Cincinnati as the Buffalo Bills, and Cincinnati Bengals were playing an important football game near the end of the season.
I was reminded of Psalm 42, in which David prays to God when things are difficult.

I first spotted Mickey Guyton on television at the July 4th National Mall Celebration in Washington DC. I wondered who she was. She wound up as Breakout of the Year for Time Magazine’s New Year Edition. She’s a black woman who sings country music and that’s something we do not see much in our world.
One of her latest songs is ‘I still pray. It's a beautiful song. Here is a link to it: https://tinyurl.com/istillpray.
And as I listened to the song, I thought about Psalm 42 which says something similar.

Day after Day may the Lord be blest
He bears our burdens; God is our savior.
On a day as solemn as Memorial Day should be for each of us, it is important to remember the pain of war, and the goodness of God who is ever and always the Father of Orphans and the defender of widows.
Fr. John Geaney shares a Memorial Day message.

Psalm 31 reminds us that our God is a loving God who takes heed of the distress we are in at the time of death of a loved one. And yes, we are in distress; and yes, we need God’s consolation at that time.
Maybe it will come to us from a friend, maybe from a loved one, maybe from a faith that we have grown over the years. But one thing is for sure – God in his Mercy loves us, and we need to keep that thought in mind when someone we love dies.
And so we pray with the Psalmist – Have Mercy on me, O’Lord.

Psalm Six is one of what are called the Penitential Psalms. They reflect a painful situation that has overtaken people while at the same time feeling God’s absence.
For Jews, the number seven is a sign of perfection, and in Psalm Six, God’s name is called seven times – trying to show the wonder of God’s presence. And so we pray:
Leave me all who do evil,
For the Lord heeds the sound of my weeping
The Lord has heard my plea
The Lord will receive my prayer.
The Psalm Six makes us aware that even in the roughest times when we are faithful to God, he will be faithful to us.

There are blessings we can count. Once you get into reflecting on God’s blessings each day, it becomes easier to see how many there are. And when we start remembering those blessings of our day, we do, indeed, praise our God.
Fr. John Geaney reflects about remembering all the day blessings we have in this version on Psalm Sense.

I turned to Psalm #1. First, the good. The psalmist says,
“Blessed indeed in the person
Who follows not the counsel of the wicked
Nor stands in the path with sinners
Nor abides in the company of scorners
But who delights in the law of the Lord,
And who ponders God’s law day and night.
He is like a tree that is planted
Besides the flowing waters
That yields its fruit in due season.
So what do they say about evil?

There are times when life can seem to be overwhelming to us and a light moment from a friend or relative lifts us up. The Psalmist has words for us to express our joy -- and to give God the credit that is his due because he is always watching over us.

The Lord's Love.
Now if you watch Psalm Sense, then I would assume that you do trust in the Lord. So, it would seem that even though tragedy seems to be everywhere we turn, we will still trust in the Lord and do what we can to help those around us do the same. And why would we do that?
Let's see what Fr. John Geaney has to say about Psalm 125.
