Wednesday is the Feast Day of Maximilian Kolbe who was a Polish Catholic priest and Conventual Franciscan friar. He was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II on October 10, 1982. Franciszek Gajowniczek, the man St. Maximilian saved at Auschwitz, survived the Holocaust and was present as a guest at both the beatification and the canonization ceremonies. St. Maximilian is the patron saint of persons with a substance use disorder.
Masses on the Thursday, August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, are at 6am, 7am, 12:05pm, and 5:15pm. St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch Street, Boston MA.
The friars and the staff at the Shrine are saddened to learn of the death of Fr. Peter Gyves, SJ, MD, Founder of A Faith That Does Justice. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday. Fr. Peter did some remarkable work with the Latino community here at the Shrine, and faithfully preached the Gospel, especially with regard to our obligation to help the poor. We are grateful for his example of passion for social justice. He was truly an inspiration. We extend our condolences to the Jesuit Community and to his family. Funeral arrangements are pending.
We celebrate the Feast of St. Clare of Assisi at all of the Masses this weekend. Masses are Saturday at 4pm, and Sunday at 7am, 10am, 11:30am, and 4pm.

Introducing the 18th president of the University of Notre Dame ☘️
Welcome Fr. Bob!
Today we pray in gratitude for all of those men and women who have died in service to their country. Mass at the Shrine today at 12:05pm.
The friars and staff of the Shrine are grateful for an anonymous donor who gave us 1,000 whole frozen turkeys last week. (Not 1,000 pounds of turkey, but 1,000 turkeys!) Thank you for your generosity. Also, a big thank-you to Cummings Foundation who several years ago funded the construction of freezer space which allows us to accept these kinds of large deliveries. Finally, thank you to the employees of Arch Street Glass, our great neighbors who regularly help us to unload these huge deliveries.
Happy Mother’s Day!
