Ahimsa is the sanskrit word for the first guiding factor of yoga, "do no harm" in deed or thought to ourselves and those around us.

I was listening to affirmations this morning and one of them really stuck out: I choose love over fear. We see quite a bit of the opposite play out in politics, the news, and social media. Just this week I was talking with a stranger who said she would never visit NYC because of “all the homeless people and violence.” Wow. I was a little speechless. All the experiences she will miss. When we live in fear, we miss so much. Opportunities to learn from others, find a new favorite food, a new friend. Can you bring a little more love, or at least curiosity, into situations that may make you fearful or uncomfortable?

Coregulation is vital, especially with our children. If we can maintain our calm state, their nervous system will pick up on that and sense safety, allowing them to find calm as well.

My teachers said if you can do only one pose, make it the butterfly 🦋 It is a hip opener - where we tend to hold a lot of tension. It relieves lower back pain. Folding forward helps ease your nervous system - reducing anxiety. It strengthens your inner thighs. Sit on a folded blanket to assist in tilting the pelvis, making it more comfortable to sit upright with ease. If you have back concerns, keep your back straight. Bend at the waist and do not round your back. Plus it’s fun to say in Sanskrit: Badhakonasana (bah- dah-cone-ah-sana) 😊
