I have taught yoga since 1995 and loved every minute of it! I now specialize in Yoga for Seniors and Gentle Yoga, tho my Mon evening classes include more rigorous yoga like shoulder and headstands. Yoga this week: Yoga for Neck, Upper Upper Back, Shoulders, Chest, and "Dowager's Hump" (a term that makes me cringe, but I'll bet you know what it means). It describes a rounding-forward head, base of the neck, and 'upper upper' back. It can sometimes look like a fatty hump (or not) and can be accompanied by an aching back and shoulders, tight hamstrings, and can cause headaches. We'll do "posture yoga" this week to help correct or prevent dowager's hump. (To be clear, poor posture is not the only possible culprit here - many health conditions can cause this kind of kyphosis.) We'll do yoga for lots of other places, too. Yoga this week: Strengthening our Balance - so important as we age, mainly because NOT FALLING, EVER is so important! We will strengthen our leg and core muscles, our feet and hips, work a bit on posture, and do lots of standing one leg balances - some static, some in motion. You will actually feel your balance becoming more solid. Mon 6-7:15 pm and Tues 11-noon and Thurs 11-noon all on Zoom. We will also do some moves and breathing exercises to help with insomnia. And, as always, we'll do moves to gently strengthen our core, balance, and posture. Yoga long, slow stretches this Tues+Thurs 11-noon (2/27+2/29) to bring flexibility in a gentle but persistent way to many body parts - see how great it can feel to release so many tight areas.
