Our mission to get lobster rolls at the beach was a success!! What a wonderful way to celebrate one of the best New England summers on record. Hazel brought her new puppy, Luca, who got to see the ocean for the first time at only 10 weeks old. He had a mouth full of sand after tasting everything he could find, which seemed suitable for a land shark. 😂
Next weekend is the Greek Festival in Somerville. And after that, we’ll be going roller skating at the outdoor rink in East Cambridge. Reach out if you want to join us on one of our field trips! K hasn’t practiced yoga in 6 years and is just coming back to her practice now. Today I invited her to try crow pose again. And voila! The body always remembers. ❤️❤️
It’s national dog day!! Leela, my current pup, is in the first pic. Missy, my first, is in the 2nd. I love all dogs and still dog sit whenever I can but my heart is with greyhounds. Forever and always. They are the sweetest, goofiest couch potatoes who want nothing but peace, snuggles, and snacks.
What is a New England summer without a proper lobster roll? I went to Kelly’s yesterday at Revere beach and it was so good that yogis Hazel, Diana, and I decided to get together next Saturday to do the same. Let me know if you’d like to join us!! Just a small gathering where we can sit together, chat, and enjoy lobster rolls at the beach. 🏖️
Rest doesn’t just mean laying down or sleeping. There are actually 7 types of rest, and it’s important to respect them and listen to your body when you need one or more of them. Yoga and embodiment practices are one of the many ways to let yourself rest, along with turning off your phone, spending time alone, taking a break from socializing, and more!

In collaboration with the City of Cambridge, The Embody School is very happy to announce some free classes this August! Bring a mat, sunscreen, and water. These classes are for everyone, regardless of your skill level, body type, or flexibility! Do make note of where each session takes place, as each date’s location is a different public park within Cambridge.
We had a field trip today! We went as a group to the Lowell Folk festival and I got to show my students where I grew up and how proud I am of the diverse immigrant city I was raised in. We tried Cameroonian and Liberian foods for the first time. We also enjoyed Greek food (natch) and some pastelitos at the end of our day. We also enjoyed music from Cape Verde, an amazing gospel group, some funk, Americana, and an Iraqi Jewish ensemble. It was a perfect day with wonderful company. 🙏🏼 This is how we build community.
Need access to an affordable yoga class? Come and practice on Saturday mornings with Dierdre for only $8! All levels are welcomed. Got away from the never ending admin work for some fun with my girl Tiffany . Tried bouldering for the first time. It was very challenging to use my muscles in ways I normally don’t because I’m always protecting my right shoulder.
Yoga taught me how to use my shoulder in more stable ways and today I’m not experiencing any discomfort or inflammation. My neck feels fine, too! So yes, definitely going back to try again and looking forward to more upper body strength. 🤗

👶 Baby and Me Yoga — Focus on regaining body awareness after all the physical changes of pregnancy and birth. Reconnect to your core. Learn how to move with your baby and gain some infant massage skills, too! This class is for moms who are at least 4 weeks postpartum after a vaginal birth and 6 weeks postpartum after a cesarean birth with your doctor’s okay. Your baby should be in the pre-crawling stage.
👨👩👦 Family Yoga — This is a yoga class for the whole family! Age 4+. Connect with your children through yoga, postures, breath awareness, and relaxation. Learn fun, partner poses to do with your child as well as simple exercises to help you and your child regulate your emotions.
Something about Child’s pose feels like coming home.
So many different body types and so many different abilities require many different options for each pose. Our job is to bring the pose to you, not the other way around. 🙏🏼

Welcoming the new month! July is also Disability Pride Month, which is a cause that is close to us at The Embody School. One of our talented instructors, Tonya, has extensive experience working with disabled children and families. She is available for single sessions and private groups in addition to her regular teaching schedule. If you or your family are interested in possible public group classes, reach out to us.
