Mid 80s and still kicking ass in the gym. With 2 to 4 60 minute strength sessions a week Bess has found the fountain of youth. We always warm up with 2 to 3 movements on the TRX. Not only does it focus on strength but it is an excellent piece for stretching and elongating the muscles. Due to her hard work Bess has been injury free for the 10 years we have been working together.

The Incline Barbell Chest Press
- Great for no be stressing and building the upper chest.
- Incline press may place less stress on the shoulder joint compared to flat.
- Incline puts less stress on rotator cuff due to angle of bench.

Tips and Things to Watch with Incline
- studies have shown that an incline of about 30 degrees is enough to elicit upper chest activation.
- With Incline your anterior delts are worked and activated to a much greater extent.
- When performing incline if your butt comes off bench you are essentially shifting to a flat press.
- The higher the angle on the bench the more the front delts will be activated.

The Flat Barbell Bench Press
- Flat press does a much better job of developing your pecs.
- This is a much more natural fluid movement in comparison to the incline press.
- Changing the grip width can put pressure on different areas of the chest which can lead to a more balanced and muscular physique.

Things to Watch and Tips for Flat Press
- Most individuals are 20% to 30% stronger in the flat bench press.
- You are stronger with flat due to the more efficient pressing angle which allows for greater muscle activation. Shorter range of motion also factors in.
- Flat press does lead to more injuries therefore individuals should have no shoulder pain and full shoulder mobility as well as scapular stability.

Being an senior does not mean you should become less active. It’s actually quit the opposite. A safe and effective workout routine should be implemented on a daily basis. Regular physical activity is one of the most important things a senior can do for their current and continuation of their health. It prevents an abundance of health problems that come with age. It’s keeps muscles strong and allows for older adults to keep doing day to day activities without becoming dependent on others.

At PPF Tuesdays are dedicated to our seniors and assisted living communities. For over 15 years PPF has been recognized by the industry for its work with older populations. We associate aging with a decline in quality of life. This does not have to be the case. Through a proper exercise program, a results driven program older adults can improve mental health, decrease risk of injury, engage is social activity and improve cognitive function, prevent disease such as heart disease and diabetes.
