CSRPC is a hub of research and an incubator of anti-racist practice.
Justice for Michael Broadway! Come out and rally tomorrow, Wednesday July 24 at noon outside the State of Illinois Building, 555 W Monroe to demand ! Sign up to get involved at bit.ly/CLOSESTATEVILLENOW
All of us at CSRPC and our Beyond Prisons Initiative join our friends and partners in commemorating the life of Michael Broadway who tragically lost his life in late June during a sudden asthma attack while incarcerated at Stateville prison.
Michael Broadway was a loving son, father, grandfather, devoted friend, and a vibrant member of our community. Michael's passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew him. Michael was guided by his moral compass. He exuded wisdom and thoughtfulness and was regarded as a leader and trusted advisor. Michael's presence will be missed by many.
Please consider a donation to help pay for Michael's going home ceremony, including travel costs to Chicago for his loved one's and additional funds to allow them time to grieve and honor Michael. https://gofund.me/921d7192
Please attend this town hall meeting about Governor Pritzker’s decision to close Stateville Correctional Center and the current conditions of those who are still incarcerated there. Most of the recent conversations have left out the voices of those who have experienced incarceration at Stateville directly and so you are invited to come and hear some firsthand stories and perspectives about these urgent issues. Tuesday, 6/25 at 6pm | Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, 420 E. Superior St (8th floor)
Congratulations to our “Reimagining the University: Race and Arts” 2024 awardees!
The twelve projects that CSRPC has funded will advance the Center’s ongoing efforts to reimagine the university as a place where we can investigate and intervene in the systems of white supremacy and racism. Grantees will reimagine the university through the lens and practices of the arts, creativity, and humanistic inquiry. Project themes range from an examination of racism in the health-care system to the racialized injustice of mass incarceration.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome our latest ‘Reimagining the University’ grantees to the Center community,” says CSRPC Executive Director Tracye A. Matthews.
“Together, we will advance CSRPC’s core mission to support scholarship, arts, and public dialogue about the centrality of race and racism in the systems we inhabit.”
