National Health Corps Chicago (NHC Chicago) is a program of the National Health Corps AmeriCorps program.
The National Health Corps (NHC) has 94 members serving at sites in Chicago, North Florida, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Central California, and San Francisco. NHC members serve at over 60 host sites including community health centers, county health departments, schools and community-based public health organization. PHIMC is excited to announce that we are seeking host site organizations with National Health Corps (NHC) Chicago AmeriCorps program for 2024-2025!
Benefits of hosting an AmeriCorps member includes:
- A consistent member with a strong skill set for up to 11 months increases organizational capacity to address critical needs in the Chicagoland area.
- Support for host site supervisors and ongoing technical assistance from PHIMC program staff.
- Networking and collaboration opportunities with other host site organizations.
- Member training and professional development from PHIMC program staff and outside experts, including motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, conflict resolution, and communication skill building.
Host Site Applications are due February 29, 2024.

MLK Day project in February?! Yes, it is true! NHC Chicago's MLK Day project was cancelled in January due to -30 wind chills. Yikes! When the weather improved a little, they were able to get out to to help clean up an art room. It was perfect timing, as the club has a new Art Activity Specialist starting and they will have a clean slate. NHC Chicago was absolutely thrilled to be of help to this awesome organization. NHC Chicago got together for their February Training Day last week! They learned about immigrant health, NARCAN administration, giving and receiving feedback, and the journey of a Public Health Professional through the sharing of the personal story of the Program Director of the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance at PHIMC. Great day!

NHC Chicago spent their December group service project with an organization called Working Bikes. This organization takes in donated bikes, rehabs them, and donates and sells bikes back to communities both locally and internationally. It was a fun day to get a greasy and help out the Chicago community!

December 10th marked the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a global pledge that enshrined the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being and that our collective actions do not leave anyone behind. Here in Chicago, we are seeing a humanitarian crisis amongst our migrant communities. Read our graphics to learn more about what's happening in Chicago and local resources to help.
In November, NHC Chicago gathered together for a group service project with Care for Real. They distributed winter clothing to Chicago residents. For their October Group Service Project, NHC Chicago visited the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) and served as part of a group that packed over 33,000lbs of food! A great time was had by all and a huge impact was made that will be felt by Chicago communities!

NHC Chicago completed their first Group Service Project this past weekend cleaning up Montrose Beach with Adopt-a-Beach and Sierra Club. A beautiful day to help maintain a beautiful spot in Chicago!
