Welcome our new Fitness Director Rich Smith!
Rich is an ACE-certified personal trainer and strength/conditioning specialist at Cheetah Gym in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. Formerly a master trainer and member of senior management at Fitness Formula Clubs in Chicago, IL, Rich has been helping clients as an entrepreneur since 2005. He has recently stepped into a leadership position as the new Fitness Director at Cheetah Gym.
Rich’s training focuses on movement mechanics and muscle stimulation to get the body to respond. His philosophy in personal training is that because the human body is ever-changing, it will automatically carry over to success in every part of life when given the proper tools to succeed physically. He believes that everyone can develop better habits mentally and physically. In addition to training the body, he strives to help clients recognize and tear down mental strongholds that keep them from living their best lives. With his background as a professional concert dancer, teacher, and amateur bodybuilder, he can work with various clients. Rich also has his Classical Pilates Certification in Mat and Apparatus to add to his portfolio of knowledge to help his clients become the best version of themselves.

Learn to fly! Learn the basics to help you feel comfortable in an aerial yoga class. This class is designed for all-levels of practitioner: no prior experience is needed. You will learn about grips, wraps, and working into inversions at your own pace and comfort level. Get to know what it feels like to be fully supported by the aerial hammock and experiment with more challenging poses in a whole new way.
Specialty Class Reservation and Cancellation Policy: space is limited, please reserve your spot in advance, and cancel your reservation online if you can no longer attend as planned. Reservation and cancellation windows close 60 minutes before class starts.

My approach to training revolves around the holistic, transformative power of nutrition and exercise. Through my own journey, I’ve found a passion for the way exercise can change our physical selves, as well as our mental wellbeing. To me, exercise is the ultimate act of self care. EXPERTISE
I earned my personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and I have been training since September of 2022. Before my career in fitness, I was a life-long athlete competing as an NCAA volleyball player during all 4 years of my undergraduate program at Denison University. During this time I also had a job in the Athletics department as a student athletic trainer, which allowed me to possess a better understanding of recovery and rehabilitative behaviors in sports. I also own a small online personal training business, and I have clients all across the country!
PHILOSOPHY
As someone who has experienced gender/body dysmorphia, my approach to fitness is about more than just strength and the desire to improve fitness levels. Not only do I believe consistent exercise can solve many of the chronic pains and illnesses faced by the general population today, but for the trans and q***r community fitness can mean building a body that feels like YOU. I work with q***r/trans/gender non-conforming clients to provide gender-affirming body recomposition training, as well as to prep/recover from gender-affirming surgeries. I commit my personal research to trans-specific fitness, and have collaborated with multiple board-certified surgeons to develop and refine my training strategies centered around such procedures.
