Then & now: Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Smart Museum is UChicago's on-campus fine arts museum, which holds over 17,000 works spanning 5,000 years of history. The museum opened in 1974 in a building designed by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. Alongside its neighbor, the Cochrane-Woods Art Center, these modernist, limestone-paneled buildings centered on a shared sculpture garden, strike a balance between academic, contemplative, and public spaces dedicated to the visual arts. Left-handed pitcher Roy Henshaw, who played for the Maroons in 1930-32, threw 3-plus innings for the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the 1935 Series, which they lost to the Detroit Tigers.

Henshaw went on to play in 216 games for four teams in eight MLB seasons, finishing with a 33-40 win/loss record. In 1937, Henshaw was traded from the Brooklyn Dodgers to the St. Louis Cardinals for future Cubs manager Leo Durocher.
