With great sorrow, we share the news that the Fourth of July parade shooting in Highland Park took the lives of two DePaul alumni, Kevin and Irina McCarthy. We remain heartbroken by this news and the seemingly never-ending atrocious acts of violence that have taken the lives of our alumni and countless others. We mourn with Highland Park, Chicago and our nation.

For the first time in two years, DePaul University graduates celebrated the end of their academic journey with in-person commencement ceremonies. Approximately 4,500 Blue Demons participated in the weekend's festivities, while a total of roughly 6,300 students earned their degree this academic year.

Happy Pride Month! DePaul was the first Catholic institution to have both a full-time staff member dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA+ students and a LGBT Studies program. What does the DePaul mission mean to you?
The DePaul missions means serving those in my community for the good of our nation and world. DePaul University gave me the opportunity to be exactly who I needed to be and allowed me to grow through out my four years in Chicago.

Why do you serve as a DePaul alumni volunteer?
I serve as a volunteer for the DePaul Washington D.C. Alumni Chapter because I wanted to grow my relationship with the alumni community in the D.C. metro area. I want to continue to champion the Vincentian values and mission here in the D.C. area by supporting the university I called home for four years for all past, present and future DePaul graduates.

What do you enjoy most about being involved as an alumni volunteer?
What I enjoy most about being involved in the alumni association is the connections I have been able to make throughout my time volunteering. Meeting new people and continuing to grow our chapter has been a highlight of 2021 and 2022 for me.
