Save the Date! Montgomery County is updating its Comprehensive Plan. On June 13, Montgomery County Planning & GIS is hosting a Community Open House. You can provide your input to help shape Montgomery County's future! Stop by from 5-7:30 pm.

Big things incoming!

The county website will be updated on Thursday, May 16, around 11 am. This will cause an outage lasting approximately 10 minutes. Thank you in advance for your patience. We look forward to providing citizens with an improved website experience!

🚧 From VDOT: Route 661 (Silver Lake Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 1223 (Round Meadow Drive) and Route 662 (Chrisman Mill Road) beginning May 20. A detour will be signed to use US 11 (Radford Road).

The road will be closed for the construction of sanitary sewer across the road in rock conditions. The road closure is expected to last for approximately two weeks.

A quarterly test of Citizens Alert is scheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 30. Those who have opted for text message alerts should receive a notification.

Budget season continues! The next meeting, Feb. 26, includes a presentation of the Proposed FY 25 Public Schools Budget to the Board of Supervisors. The meeting is in the second floor board room of the Government Center and begins at 7:15pm.

October is National Community Planning Month! We love celebrating the planning work we and our fellow Montgomery County citizens are engaged in all year long, but this month is extra special!

We'll be sharing some highlights of our work over the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Thank you to the Board of Supervisors for recognizing October as Community Planning Month in Montgomery County, and for their recognition and continued support of the work of our department, the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, planning staffs from the Town of Blacksburg and Town of Christiansburg, the New River Valley Regional Commission, and others who plan to make our community the best it can be!

It’s about that time y’all!! Mark your calendars for a fun trip through the Government Center! 🎃👻🍬

When Zoning, GIS, and a little historic preservation come together... It was quite an adventure this morning as we attempted to preserve our fragile original zoning map (from around 1970), which had been rolled up for decades. Staff cleaned up the torn edges, continued flattening it (that actually started a couple days ago when we found it), and then scanned it in efforts to digitize it. Here are a few snapshots of this old gem. Take note of the lack of road names (only route numbers back then!) and that old school, almost Trek-y, North arrow!
