A couple weeks ago Professor Kerry Tripp led her annual study abroad trip to Cuba. This trip is offered each summer and offers students the opportunity to engage in a comparative analysis of Cuba’s legal, public health, and political systems through the lens of the Cuban family.

Students who participate in this global-learning experience earn 4 credits for FMSC486: Law, Public Health, and the Cuban Family!

It’s never too early to start talking with your advisor about study abroad opportunities.

“I’m q***r and an anthropologist—it’s pretty difficult to surprise a q***r anthropologist,” said Dr. Matthew Thomann on his 2022 Fulbright experience in Kenya. He spent his time working closely with gay male populations in Africa infected with HPV. He listened to their stories about treatment, how it affected their lives, and the impact on their friendships and relationships.

During Thomann’s time conducting observation on recovering patients, he found that it was deeply meaningful to find himself intertwined in those webs of relationality, humanity, and healing. To learn more about health justice and Dr. Thomann’s work, head to our bio.
