As bars become busier ahead of 4th of July, the Ohio Investigative Unit is reminding people of the dangers of selling alcohol to minors. This misdemeanor carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Summer can be a great time of year to play sports, enjoy family picnics, or take a stroll through a neighborhood park; but it can also bring excessive heat that may make your summertime fun take a dangerous turn, we spoke to the Ohio Emergency Management Agency on tips to stay safe during and congratulations to the eleventh Public Safety Leadership Academy class, which graduated after 11 weeks of accredited, college-level training through a partnership with The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

Akron doctor arrested by Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force 06/17/2024

Recently, the Ohio Investigative Unit was involved in an undercover sting operation that led to the arrest of an Akron doctor who was attempting to buy s*x online. The suspect, 34-year-old Hang Yin, is scheduled to go to pre-trial later this year.

Akron doctor arrested by Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force In an online chat included in the sting operation, Yin stated he worked at the Summa Health System in Akron and admitted to meeting other prostitutes.

The Hilltop kicked off a safe summer with the Hilltop Summer Safety Bash a free event for students, youth and families in the Columbus area, brought to you by the Ohio School Safety Center and the Department of Public Safety and The Ohio Traffic Safety Office is partnering with Students Against Destructive Decisions, The Ohio State University, and The Ohio School Resource Officers Association to implement a new program to educate students and families about the importance of wearing a seat belt and using a booster seat.

Weekly Update: Motorcycle Ohio presented two “Saved by the Helmet” awards at the Chillicothe Paints game at VA Memorial Stadium and the Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center Executive Director Cynthia Peterman and Erin Reed, Public Safety Assistant Policy Director in the Governor’s Office, hosted a breakout session, “Knowledge is Power - Rapid Intelligence Sharing as a Public Priority” at the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities, Mental Health and Addiction Conference.

June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month. In 2023, the Ohio Investigative Unit removed over 300 illegal fi****ms from the streets, which can no longer be used to harm Ohio citizens or commit crimes.

The 2024 ONIC Law Enforcement Drug Summit opened May 29 with DPS Director Andy Wilson, who thanked attendees for their service to their communities, and for keeping Ohioans safe and ODPS kicked off its summer internship’s experimental learning series this week with a fun and educational “amazing race” style day for the college interns working at the department this summer.

Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day. It is an opportunity to honor law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Agent James Burns is one of those people. He was killed while working an investigation in Xenia on November 7, 1964. May he never be forgotten.
