Feeling overwhelming emotions? Pause and try the RAIN technique. ☔️
R: recognize what’s going on. Consciously acknowledge the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affecting you. (I’m feeling sad and starting to cry.)
A: Accept the experience you’re having. (This feeling is temporary. It will pass, just like rain. It’s okay to feel sad.)
I: Investigate the feeling with kindness. (How does sadness feel in my body? Where do I feel it? Why might this be coming up for me right now?)
N: Non-identification. (I am not this feeling of sadness. I won’t always be sad. It’s okay to notice it, feel it, and then let it pass.)
Part of the power of therapy is having another person bare witness to your innermost thoughts and feelings. Once these things are talked about, they becomes much less burdensome.
Call (714) 547-8111 today to set up an intake session with one of our therapists. 🧡
Classes are back in session and the return to the academic year can be really challenging for students and parents! Therapy can provide a space for students and families to work through these challenges and develop coping skills. 📝
Our clinic in Costa Mesa is open for sliding scale therapy for children, adults, families, and couples. Reach out today to schedule an appointment!
