Meet Javier Mena García, a student from Mexico. He is currently enrolled in the PhD program of Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State. He is a Fulbright García Robles scholarship awarded student.

He is from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and found out about the Fulbright scholarship in one of the adviser’s visits to his university. Once he found out about Comexus website and the scholarship opportunities he made an appointment at the advising center in order to fill the application platform. His hard work and consistency made him a perfect fit for the program. Fortunately, he was awarded the scholarships and now he is in his second year in the program.

In his own words “I could advise that to take advantage of the experiences studying a Graduate Program in the United States, is to give yourself a chance to develop your academic knowledge, your international culture, your language and communication skills, your personality and your spirit. So far it has been an amazing experience. Not only because of the opportunity to learn from professors that are leading expert Scientists worldwide, but also because of the cultural enrichment found inside the laboratories and outside the classrooms. Only within my research group, I daily share ideas with my colleagues that come from China, Japan, South Korea, England, Turkey, Burundi and of course the United States. The friendships that I have made are equally internationally diverse, and it is refreshing to enjoy the outdoors of State College, in company to unwind from the books, the screens and the microscopes.”
