We are happy to share this post from the Broward County Office of Diversity and Inclusion

Pride Month is a time to honor the LGBTQ+ community and recognize the ongoing struggle for equal rights and social acceptance. Pride Month is not only a celebration of the progress made but also a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equality and inclusion. It’s a time for us to reflect on our commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Let's stand together in solidarity, celebrate diversity, and continue to foster a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Remember, there are resources available to you via HR's DEI Website https://www.broward.org/DEI/Pages/LanguageMatters.aspx and check out this year’s events on Visit Lauderdale’s site! https://www.visitlauderdale.com/lgbtq/lgbtq-events/

Caribbean American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the vibrant culture, history, and contributions of Caribbean Americans. The Caribbean American community has significantly enriched our society through their diverse heritage, achievements, and vibrant traditions. This month provides us with an opportunity to recognize and honor the many ways in which Caribbean Americans have not only shaped Broward’s but our nation’s cultural and social landscape. You can also visit the Library and check out a book from the Official 2024 Book List.https://caribbeanamericanmonth.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Caribbean-American-Heritage-Month-Book-Bankra-for-libraries-update.pdf

We are proud to highlight and celebrate the many contributions of both the Caribbean American and LGBTQ+ communities. I encourage everyone to participate in local activities, engage in meaningful conversations, and take this opportunity to learn and grow together.

Important update from the Broward Supervisor of Elections

Good Morning Neighborhood Partner,

As we gear up for a busy Fall election cycle, we want to share an important update with you.

Many of you are in possession of the trifolds provided by our office that allow citizens to register to vote and/or request a Vote-By-Mail ballot for this year’s remaining elections. It is vital that you DO NOT use or distribute those trifolds after 4/17/24, as written requests MUST be completed on the newly adopted Statewide Vote-By-Mail Ballot Request Form, per Florida law.

You can find, print, and distribute the form by following this link:

Microsoft Word - DS-DE 160 Statewide Vote-by-Mail Request Ntc. Change 20231206.docx (floridados.gov)

Additionally, the Broward County SOE Office will be printing newly designed handouts for you to purchase for $5 for a pack of 100.

Please be on the lookout for more information from us regarding our Spring Neighborhood Partnership Committee Meeting, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 9, 2024.

Kindly share this message with your friends and constituents, and thank you for all you do in helping us to spread awareness about the electoral process!

Severe and stagnant disparities in maternal death rates have been apparent for Black or African American women since 2017 in Broward County. Their rates have consistently been almost three times higher than their White and Hispanic or Latino counterparts. However, in 2021, the maternal death rate of Black or African American mothers almost tripled compared to 2019. By comparison, there were no maternal deaths for White mothers and 14.7 for Hispanic mothers in 2021.

The above statement is from the Broward Commission on the status of Women(CSW) CEDAW report.

🌎 World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7 to raise awareness about global health issues. ❤️ The World Health Organization (WHO) leads the day to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. 🧠🫀🫁

The theme for 2024 is "My health, my right," which emphasizes the importance of everyone having access to essential health services, education, and information. This theme also highlights other fundamental human rights, such as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working conditions, and environmental conditions.

Broward County and the Broward County Commission on the Status of Women recognize April as Autism Acceptance Month. The National Autism Society first held Autism Acceptance Month in April 1970, formerly ‘Autism Awareness Month.' The society announced a shift in terminology from ‘awareness’ to ‘acceptance’ stating "Awareness is knowing that somebody has autism. Acceptance is when you include a person with autism in your activities." This month raises awareness about autism acceptance and promotes inclusion and connectedness.

Lack of understanding, stigmatization, and discrimination associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and neurodivergence create barriers to diagnosis and inclusion for many children and adults. Addressing this publicly creates more awareness and acceptance.

Transgender Day of Visibility celebrates the joy, strength, and absolute courage of some of the bravest people I know — people who have too often had to put their jobs, relationships, and lives on the line just to be their true selves. - President Joe Biden, A Proclamation on Transgender Day of Visibility.
