Through the workforce development initiative, Nassau BOCES Regional Schools & Instructional Programs developed a relationship with the Haugland Group LLC and their new Community Economic & Workforce Development Manager, Rosalie Drago. Through this partnership, the Haugland Group, a construction services company, has generously donated a Ford E450 16-passenger bus to provide our Nassau BOCES career and technical education (CTE) automotive programs with rich instructional opportunities. This vehicle will further expand the experiential learning provided to our CTE students.

Students in our Nassau BOCES Adult Career and Technical Education Introduction to Diesel Engines Program are getting hands-on experience disassembling a 6.7C engine and changing a fuel filter and water separator on a 2011 Silverado equipped with an LML Duramax engine.

Thank you to Daniel Sasso, the owner and CEO of The Auto Paint Depot. He recently donated $10,000 in auto paint to Nassau BOCES Adult Education’s Auto Collision program and personally delivered the donation to our Auto Collision class. Mr. Sasso also shared his extensive knowledge and industry experience with the students during his visit. He also gave the class gift bags.

Forty-three students in the Nassau BOCES Adult Education Entry-Level Career Training Program celebrated the completion of their coursework recently in an official certificate ceremony. The students were presented with their certificates of achievement by administrators from the Adult Education Program, which is housed at the Joseph M. Barry Career and Technical Education Center in Westbury. The goal of the Nassau BOCES Adult Education Entry-Level Career Training Program is to prepare students for employment in their chosen fields. Courses incorporate intensive training in a variety of essential trades including auto technician, building maintenance, direct care, food service, pet care/grooming, porter/custodial, and stock and inventory. Each course includes a component in employability skills training. Job placement specialists work closely with students throughout the semester to arrange appropriate job placement and provide support services.

Nassau BOCES Adult Education programs focus on equipping adults with the skills needed for successful careers and the program has new and improved offerings that cater to the evolving needs of today's job market. Begin here with basic knowledge of welding tools and their functions along with theory and applications. Become versed in bead disposition in flat, vertical, and overhead positions on four types of joints using mild steel. Understand the basics of electrode selection and oxyacetylene burning, engaging in both manual and automatic procedures. Practice Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) on aluminum and steel. You will become experienced enough to perform welding projects to satisfy industry codes and standards. Continue in this program to gain certification. Study professional skills pertaining to employability in the welding construction industry.
