Please help us keep our streets and waterways clean Long Beach City. Together, we can keep LB litter-free! Check out the tips below⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️
•Avoid piling leaves or other debris in the street, alley, or gutter. Street sweepers have difficulty removing piles of debris as the machine will end up spreading the debris when it is stacked.
•Do not rake, blow or sweep leaves or other debris into the street, alley, or gutter
(Long Beach Municipal Code 8.60.111)
•Dispose of litter properly, keeping it out of gutters and alleys
Did you know sweeping leaves into the street can cause delays in street sweeping services? 👀
Though the hopper does collect fallen leaves, piles of organic debris will require multiple passes to get a clean sweep. Our hoppers do hold a lot of debris but the increase in fallen leaves during autumn and winter requires multiple stops for emptying. This can result in time zones and routes not being completed🚫.
Please help us during leaf season by disposing of leaves and organic debris in the trash or in a compost bin. ✅ This also protects our oceans and waterways. Thank you so much for keeping LB litter-free!🙏
Don't forget! Long Beach City is hosting an in-person community meeting to provide a comprehensive overview of the Shoemaker Bridge Replacement Project. The Shoemaker Bridge Replacement Project aims to improve existing traffic safety and operations and project updates will be provided. See you there!
Long Beach City's contractor All American Asphalt, is scheduled to begin construction along Alamitos Avenue in the downtown area during the week of Dec. 4, 2023, with an estimated completion date, barring weather or other unforeseen delays, by early January 2024.
Alamitos Avenue will be slurry sealed from East Ocean Boulevard to East 7th Street to extend the serviceable life of the street. Improvements will also include the installation of painted buffered bike lanes on both sides of Alamitos Avenue, new thermoplastic traffic striping, continental crosswalk markings, and traffic signage. This project is one of several projects aimed to increase bike lane connectivity across the City’s bike lane network.
The contractor is scheduled to perform work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. “No Parking” signs will be posted for a minimum of three days prior to the start of work. Efforts will be made to maintain as much parking as possible. Intermittent intersection closures may be necessary to complete this project. While the contractor will attempt to open streets as soon as it is safe to do so, the City encourages the use of alternate routes during work hours. The contractor encourages residents to reduce water runoff from driveways and lawn irrigation into the street before and during construction activities.
The City appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation throughout this project.

This month, Long Beach City celebrated the grand opening of the Alamitos Beach Concession Stand.
The Alamitos Beach Concession Stand is one of five revitalized concession stands to activate the waterfront, increase recreational access to the beach, and create long-term partnerships with the City and special event organizers.
Built as one of the City projects in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games, the new Alamitos Beach Concession Stand replaces the former one-story building and is now a 5,500-square-foot facility with a two-story café, outdoor and indoor seating, a rooftop deck, outdoor play area and games corner, new restrooms, and an upcoming sports rental/retail facility. Come check it out today!
Don't forget! More than 80% of a mattress can be recycled, saving valuable resources & preserving the environment. We work with Bye Bye Mattress to collect mattresses for recycling. Your old mattresses and box springs are dismantled, and the steel, foam, fabric and wood are separated and used to make new products instead of ending up in a landfill.
Our mattress recycling event is happening this Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 8AM-2PM. Save the date and drop your old mattress off. Our staff will be there to assist.
*This event is open only to Long Beach residents.
Let's kick off December with a community clean-up! What better way to spread joy and cheer by volunteering with neighbors and friends? We will be meeting this Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, details below!❄️

Fall and winter, or what we refer to as "leaf season" is one of the most challenging times for street sweeping.
When leaf debris is swept into the street for the street sweeper to collect, the street sweeper ends up moving and spreading the leaf debris along its path instead of sucking up the debris efficiently. This results in the operator needing to make multiple passes to collect as much as debris as possible to try and get a clean sweep. This can affect other time zones/routes as multiple stops are required to empty the street sweeper.
Please be a leaf season partner for Long Beach City by properly disposing of leaves in your trash bin or compost. 🙏

Street sweeping is officially cancelled for the rest of the day, starting at 12:30pm, Wednesday November 15, 2023. Long Beach City Long Beach RecyclesGoActiveLB
Street sweeping is officially canceled for the rest of today, Wednesday November 15, 2023 starting at 12:30. Please stay safe in rainy weather.
Street sweeping operations are planned for tomorrow, Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Because social media is not monitored 24/7, we highly recommend contacting our street sweeping hotline at 562-570-2890 for the most current information.
Please note that street sweeping is not automatically cancelled during rainy days. Our dedicated team consistently assesses weather conditions hour by hour to optimize the efficiency of our street sweepers. If you have any questions relating to street sweeping status, please don't hesitate to call us.
It's leaf season!🍂 Trees shed falling leaves which pile up along the curb, impacting street sweeping services.
Please avoid sweeping leaves into the gutter as the street sweeper won't be able to efficiently sweep. Contrary to public belief, these sweepers are not made to pick up large loads of debris🤯 . Leaves that are swept in the gutter will result in the sweeper having to make multiple passes or risk not completing the route.
Please help us by sweeping the leaves and disposing of it in the trash or adding it to your compost.🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 Long Beach Recycles
