Did you know that Keck Medicine of USC has a NeuroReVascularization Center?

The USC NeuroReVascularization (NRV) Center is a team of surgeons, nurses, OR specialists and scientists that specialize in using open surgical, minimally invasive, and non-invasive techniques to restore, improve or replace circulation of blood to the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. These techniques are generally referred to as neurorevascularization. Our team at USC specializes in using neurorevascularization to treat vascular disease.

Kathy Nguyen and Dr. Jonathan Russin have developed an incredible patient-doctor bond! A year after surgery to repair a rare and potentially deadly brain aneurysm, the two started running marathons together! They've now raised over $100,000 for research at Keck Medicine of USC. Kathy Nguyen broke into tears of joy as she crossed the finish line of the grueling Arizona Ironman on 11/21/21 with her personal best time of just under 14 hours. Her former doctor, Keck Medicine neurosurgeon Dr. Jonathan Russin, followed 18 minutes later.

In 2015, Kathy, a mother of twins from Delaware, suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm while vacationing in Los Angeles. Until she was transferred to Keck Hospital, doctors were unable to determine what was wrong with her.

Here, she came under the care of Dr. Russian and Dr. William Mack, who diagnosed the problem. Dr. Russin performed a rare procedure only a handful of medical centers can perform that ensured the proper blood flow to the brainstem while preventing additional bleeding.

Kathy made a full recovery with the strong support from her surgeons and the entire treatment team.

Kathy continues to show her gratitude for Keck Medicine through her yearly fundraising efforts, raising so far more than $43,000 out of $50,000 annual goal this year. WeRunWithYou.org
