Happy National Speech-Language Pathologist Day from our voices to yours!

We’re excited for a lunchtime World Voice Day celebration on Monday, featuring the members of the USCVC team!

CSHA 2024! Thanks to all who made it to any (or all!) of our three presentations. It was wonderful seeing so many familiar and new faces! See you in Pasadena in 2025!

San Francisco, here we come! The SLP team along with Dr. Shuman will be presenting next week at the 2024 CSHA Convergence. We can’t wait to see you there!

The USC Voice Center is offering a one-year speech-language pathology clinical fellowship with specialization in the assessment and treatment of voice and upper airway disorders. The fellowship is scheduled for October 2024 – September 2025. The clinicians of the USC Voice Center provide exceptional care that reflects a commitment to our patients and a passion for our work. They provide the highest quality treatment for the entire spectrum of voice and upper airway disorders, with particular expertise in care of the performing and singing voice. Fellows will participate in monthly dysphonia, dysphagia, and research rounds. There will be opportunities to engage with speech-language pathologists with specialization in dysphagia and management of communication and swallowing disorders secondary to head and neck cancer.

We kicked off our Vocal Injury Prevention Program for the LA Opera Young Artists Program yesterday! We were happy to come out to present and meet the talented artists in this program. We can’t wait to continue this collaboration!

We are excited to announce that registration for our 2024 Laryngeal Videostroboscopy and FEES course is now open! The course is limited to 16 participants, so sign up soon! We can’t wait to see you in February.

Dr. Elizabeth Shuman and Kacie La Forest, CCC-SLP led informative sessions on swallowing and voice problems during our “ENT for the PCP” CME course this past weekend. Our own Dr. Shuman was a course director as well! Thanks to all who attended!

The entire team had a great time this week at conference! We were proud to present multiple podium presentations, showcase our research in posters, and participate in panel discussions. See you all in Phoenix next year!

Day three of fellowship for this dynamic fellow and supervisor duo!

Welcome Nic Valdez, our new SLP Clinical Fellow! Originally from Northern California, Nic earned his master’s at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. During his time in the Show Me State, he had the pleasure of completing an externship at Washington University’s Voice and Airway Center. In addition to his academic pursuits, Nic is an accomplished pianist, music director, and singer — having performed with ensembles such as the St. Louis Symphony and The Muny. Beyond his professional endeavors, his heart finds fulfillment in his personal life where he is supported by his loving fiancé, Dylan, and two rescue pups, Oscar and Tony. He is immensely grateful for the opportunity to come back home to the Sunshine State and join the incredible USC Voice Center team for his fellowship.

Welcome, Nic!

The team ⛳️’ed last night to celebrate Kacie La Forest, CCC-SLP and the end of her clinical fellowship. We are so proud of how far she’s come, and we are so excited that she’s staying with us as part of the team!

Dr. Chloe Santa Maria joined us last month as our new laryngology fellow! Chloe Santa Maria originally hails from Perth, Western Australia. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University. Before that she had done a Masters of Public Health at UC Berkeley and worked as a resident in Australia. As an enthusiastic amateur singer and very passionate about laryngology, she is very excited about her year as the laryngology fellow at the USC Voice Center!

We are overjoyed that Dr. Elizabeth (Bis) Shuman has joined the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery as its newest clinician and assistant professor after completing her fellowship in laryngology here last year. So happy we get to keep you on our team!
