We had the privilege of having a special Grand Rounds as part of our Distinguished Lecture Series with Dr. Michael Abramoff, MD, PhD on Advances in Artificial Intelligence and Ophthalmology. Dr. Abramoff is Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa, an IEEE Fellow and ARVO Gold Fellow, as well as Founder and Executive Chairman of Digital Diagnostics, the Autonomous AI diagnostics company that was the first in any field of medicine to get FDA clearance for an autonomous AI. Grand Rounds was followed by a special Q&A session with our residents. Thank you so much for the visit and sharing your pearls and wisdom, Dr. Abramoff!

Please welcome our new faculty member, Dr. Van Nguyen! Dr. Nguyen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts as well as the various types of primary and secondary glaucoma. He joins us as a full-time faculty member after completing his Glaucoma Fellowship at USC earlier this year.

Please welcome our new faculty member, Dr. Jeffrey Gluckstein! Dr. Gluckstein is a neurologist and neuro-ophthalmologist. He sees patients with conditions affecting the optic nerve, visual pathways in the brain, and nerves of the eye. He joins us from Massachusetts Eye and Ear Neuro-Ophthalmology, where he completed his fellowship.

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Dr. Brian Song begins his new role today as residency program director. Dr. Song will have dedicated protected time spent at LAC+USC Medical Center and will be in direct supervision of our residents in the OR, clinics, and overseeing administrative duties.

Our ophthalmology residency program has been named a top-ranking ophthalmology residency program in the nation, according to Doximity!

• Wright Foundation Research Award (Wright Living) for her research project, “Sensitive detection of minimal residual intraocular disease by analysis of cell-free DNA tumor fraction in the aqueous humor of eyes with retinoblastoma: a step towards precision medicine”
• Children’s Oncology Group (The Children's Oncology Group Foundation) grant award for her research project, “Molecular characterization of retinoblastoma in vivo using the aqueous humor liquid biopsy”
