Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, University of California, Los Angeles and the College of ASEAN Community Studies, Naresuan University is pleased to host the 45th annual meeting of the Council on Thai Studies (COTS 2017), November 10-11, 2017 at UCLA.
Call for Proposals
The Council on Thai Studies (COTS) invites scholars, community advocates and students to submit proposals for presentations that are related to Thai Studies for the 2017 annual meeting, hosted by the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, University of California, Los Angeles.
We welcome all topics and perspectives from any discipline on Tai/Thai Studies, including but not limited to
- Tai/Thai people (in Thailand and the diaspora),
- Tai/Thai language(s), Linguistics,
- Tai/Thai culture(s),
- comparative studies of Thai and other languages/cultures, etc.
Proposals for 'Papers' (30 minutes, 'Symposia' (60 minutes), and 'Posters' and 'Virtual Presentations' should be submitted no later than August 15, 2017. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by August 31, 2017. Students and scholars with preliminary results, notes from the field and other works in progress are encouraged to submit their work. Inquiries regarding the submission process or the conference can be sent to [email protected].

Alumnae Elizabeth Kimura '08 and Shirley Shir '02 (pictured below on the left) participated in a panel with Dean of Humanities David Schaberg and faculty to answer student questions during one of the many Welcome Back events on campus last week. When asked why she participated in the event Shirley said it was because she wanted to give back. Elizabeth came back to campus to participate as she wanted to be a mentor for students.
