We've been anticipating the North Carolina Association of Free & Charitable Clinics Mobile Dental Unit for quite awhile, so we're thrilled that we're able to offer this service to patients right here at the Clinic. Before this, we were only able to offer tooth extractions for patients, with limited appointments, and we had a backlog of patients who needed care. With grants from the Gene Haas Foundation and Delta Dental Foundation, we were able to participate in the Mobile Dental Unit.

For our patients there are limited options for dental care. Many of our patients have never had a checkup or cleaning. Because poor oral care can also impact the heart, and some chronic illnesses create issues with our teeth, integrating dental care into healthcare is important. At the Clinic, we work to treat patients holistically, because healthcare is every part of our body and mind. When our neighbors are healthy and able to live, work, and play fully, our entire community is healthy.

In 2004 Matthews Free Medical Clinic opened it’s doors under the direction of Dr. Lou Ann McAdams, and Gail Dokes, RN, Since then MFMC has become a medical home for thousands of uninsured families and individuals in Mecklenburg and Union counties.

Our mission is to create a medical home for uninsured families and individuals in Mecklenburg and Union counties. We not only treat our patients physically through primary care and specialty services, but we also provide behavioral health and education to empower and treat the whole individual. Matthews Free Medical Clinic (MFMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides free, quality health care to low-income, uninsured people.

As Social Work Month comes to an end. We want to express our gratitude for our amazing Social Work team, we honor their dedication and compassion to our patients and the community.
