As a non-profit, we are committed to cultivating an equitable culture of diversity and inclusivity in our programs and Memphis's IT industry. And on this year's Juneteenth, we want to share our progress.

Tech901's adult student body makeup from 2015 to mid-2024 is 69% persons of color and 34% women (Memphis's demographics: 74% persons of color and 52% women*). These are encouraging signs that our mission is making an impact.⁠

Lasting change isn't secured overnight, and our city and organization have more work ahead of us to progress toward a more equitable home for the next generations.

Memphis is a US healthcare and logistics hub, employing hundreds of thousands in both industries. And just yesterday, Elon Musk announced that X.AI, the world's most powerful supercomputer will be headquartered in our city!

According to the Greater Memphis Chamber, this will be the largest private sector investment in Memphis's history. 🤯

What does all this mean? A greater need for tech talent than ever before!

On top of this, our city continues to be a national leader for diversity in the tech field, with CompTIA's 2022 State of the Tech Workforce report revealing Memphis has the highest percentage of African Americans AND women in tech in the country. 🔥

Alex's new title? Tech SUPERSTAR!! 👏😎

Last month, alumni Alexandra Pena stopped by to share her story and expertise with our IT Foundations course!

She's attained our A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. While in our Foundations course, she also graduated with a master's in Cyber Security from Western Governors University. 🎓🎉

Currently, she is a System Administrator for Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence. Alex is also a Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) member who consistently expands her knowledge through Portswigger Academy, Try Hack Me, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning.

We're honored to have her continue to invest in our program and impart wisdom to our students. 💙

Ever wondered why resetting your device helps fix common problems? 👇

Devices use volatile memory (aka memory only stored when powered) to store temporary data. If you go a long time without restarting your device, this data can get corrupted and cause a variety of issues.

It's recommended that you restart your devices once a week or so! Pro Tip: Create a recurring meeting invite so it becomes a part of your weekly flow!

Go off, sis!! 👏 Last month, the amazing Tahja Belin, a Tech901 alum, pianist, and current IT professional spoke to our Foundations class about her journey!

She joined our program in 2020 in addition to her musical studies at the University of Memphis. Why? Live music was no longer possible and she saw the world rapidly shifting to IT.

It wasn't easy, and she battled intense anxiety along the way. But she dug deep and has since graduated from the U of M and our program. Now, she's thriving in her role at True Group, Inc.! 💙

We're beyond thrilled to see her incredible progress and honored that she took the time to speak to our class. Tahja's power is limitless and to say we're proud is an understatement!!

It's ! 🕺 This how we look after getting a little dopamine hit when delaying an update. Who else can relate??

But seriously, should you delay your software updates? It's not a simple yes or no answer! Here's a few tips 👇

1️⃣ Update at a convenient time! Don't interrupt your flow to rush an update. We recommend updating your devices at home or (if it's a work-only device) scheduling time on your calendar so people know you're unavailable.

2️⃣ Double-check the source of the update prompt. This is less common for OS updates, but spam/viruses often try to trick users into downloading malware under the guise of an update to an app or website prompt via email or browser pop-up. ALWAYS look at the official website for info on an update you're about to do before starting.

3️⃣ We recommend checking for updates on your devices at least once a month. Not too often, but not too infrequently either. Outdated software leaves exploitable loopholes that malicious parties use to attack you.

This means millions of dollars poured into our community to make Memphis more sustainable through projects led by local organizations working with Bloomberg and our local government. 2️⃣ Take the free eval test on our website (You got this! It tests basic math and reading skills)
3️⃣ Send a CERTIFIED copy (cannot be screenshot or copy-paste) of your transcript. We accept transcripts from GED programs, high schools, and colleges.
4️⃣ After we process the three previous steps (takes 3 to 5 business days), pay for your class, which is never more than $250.

Our IT Project course is next level, and Trina Rogers is the reason why.🗣

We're used to seeing (or working on) projects with lofty goals - and sometimes the path to completion isn't clear. Trina believes a clear "how" is required to effectively project manage—and this is the core emphasis of her teachings here at Tech901.

💰 What does my course fee cover?
Payment of your registration fee guarantees your seat in the course as well as a textbook and any other class materials you will need.

🎓 Does Tech901 offer scholarships?
As our course fees are already heavily discounted, Tech901 cannot offer scholarships. However, we do offer trainees opportunities to receive discounted certification exam vouchers depending on in-class performance.

📚 Do I get my money back if I need to withdraw from class?
Before 20% class completion, trainees are eligible for a full tuition refund. Students who choose to withdraw from a Tech901 course are asked to do so by completing a withdrawal form online at https://info.tech901.org/withdrawal.
