Over the past 8 years we have grown as a rescue and have had many changes in our own personal lives. Our work as volunteers seems endless and albeit extraordinarily rewarding, it is a never ending endeavor. And so it is with much consideration that we inform you that Wilson Animal Rescue is on a hold for the foreseeable future while we take a much needed break for ourselves and our families.

This decision is not one we came to easily and the thought of letting down our adopters, fosters, supporters and animals in need is unbearable. We also know that in order for us to continue long term, we need this time to reevaluate, refocus our efforts. And to have a little time for ourselves and our families.

We thank you all for your never ending support, for becoming a part of our family for allowing us to become a part of your families. We look forward to 2023 and hope to have you with us again. ❤️

Introducing River!

River is a 4.5 -month-old old Great Pyrenees mix with a heart of gold. This sweet boy was found abandoned outside a shelter in Brownsville last month and after being treated for a parasitic infection under WAR’s care he’s ready for adoption. Smart, friendly, and curious, River would thrive in a home that has a backyard and with a family that’s committed to raising a puppy. He’s currently fostered with another male dog, but we think he would do equally well in a dog or no-dog household. He walks well on leash and will sit on command. He’s also great at sleeping through the night in his crate. River adores everyone: One of his favorite activities is to sit on a park bench and wait patiently for pets from those walking by. If you’re looking for a big dog with a super-sweet temperament, then River is your boy.

If you’re interested in River please complete our application at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt

Willow is one of those extra special dogs whose personality is difficult to adequately convey into words. Simply put, to know her, is to love her. Willow is all boxer; from her full body wiggle and zoomies, to the fact that she thinks your lap is her the only appropriate place to sit. Willow is petite at about 42 lbs, but she could stand to gain a few more. She is house trained, kennels well, adores children, is cat friendly and dog friendly. Willow plays appropriately with dogs of all sizes from puppies and senior chihuahuas to large dogs and everything in between. She rides well in the car and makes a great carpool buddy. Willow’s only vice is that she takes some time to warm up to men. She absolutely can live with men though, after a month in her foster home she has grown leaps and bounds around her foster dad but may always be apprehensive of some male visitors. We think she would do best in a home with another dog, a yard, and an adopter who is patient and understanding. We promise if you open your home and heart to this gorgeous girl you won’t regret it. 💜

If you have questions about Willow please message us or email us at [email protected]. Our adoption application can be completed at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt

Big dog lovers, look no further than Marv!

Marv is a handsome 7 month old lab mix who currently weighs around 60 lbs. Marv is the perfect mix of playful and calm. He is completely house trained and knows several commands, like sit and come. He is fostered with a 5 year old little girl and a new baby. Other than occasional jumping, he does very well with them. Marv is also dog friendly and fostered with other male dogs(one senior and one is 2 years). He is friendly, loves attention and is no stranger to water. The possibilities are endless for this good boy.

If you’re looking for a lab mix or a big boy, please apply for Marv at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt today!

Rocky is searching for a family 💙

Rocky who is lovingly named after rocky road ice cream, came to us approximately a month ago when Memphis Animal Services sent out an urgent request for help with a Parvo puppy. The following day, Rocky was still at the shelter. I was later sent the third photo by a shelter employee who was making another effort to find him help and as you can see, there was no denying those sweet, sad eyes. Rocky beat Parvo after a few days of hospitalization but still wouldn’t eat, despite there being no medical reason why he wasn’t eating. Rocky was becoming depressed so we decided to go ahead and move him to a foster home. As it turns out, Rocky just needed a quieter environment and a few good dog friends to make him perk up and decide he actually loves to eat. His foster family has fostered at least a dozen puppies, and I think his foster mom describes him best. Whoever adopts this brindle angel is one lucky family.

“We are absolutely in love with Rocky. We strongly considered adopting him ourselves, but ultimately decided we didn’t need 3 dogs. He is without a doubt the BEST foster we have ever had. He is so playful but can also be lazy if you are looking to cuddle on the couch with him. He is leash trained and loves to go for walks. He does well with kids, dogs, and cats. He sleeps all night. Truly a dream. “

Hello and here’s what you need to know about the fabulous ENZO:

Enzo has the rare distinction of being a triple threat: stunning, smart, and sweet. This 6-month-old fellow found himself all alone and super skinny at a small shelter in Tennessee after having been picked up as a stray. Since his jailbreak, he has quickly racked up a long list of fans: all enticed by his stellar good looks, charm, and unquantifiable zest for life. Every day is the best day ever for this lovely lad— a full-body wiggle kind of amazing. He hasn’t met a single person or pup with whom he wasn’t instantly infatuated with. Enzo is also incredibly bright, picking up “sit”, “down”, and “come” right off the bat. He’s a sound snoozer and certainly has no qualms about resting until the humans are ready to play. In addition to this much-appreciated patience, Enzo sticks right with you when off-leash, and struts just as confidently while on-leash. Enzo, while demonstrably capable, needs someone committed to continuing his training so he can realize his full-potential. Enzo has lots of energy so an active family would make him happiest. Also, a fun and equally active furry friend and a fenced-in yard would be ideal for him but not mandatory. Finally, his underbite is truly the sweetest cherry on top.

Enzo is ready for a home of his own and a BFF (or a few) who will stick around for the long haul. Might that be you?

Meet Charles and Dixie! These two beauties are about 3.5 months old and came to us from a rural shelter in Mississippi. We aren’t sure what they’re life was like before, but they are still learning life can be kind. Charles and Dixie are SO sweet, come running when you call for them, but are nervous when you reach for them. However, once they are in your lap, they’ll cuddle forever if you’ll let them! Charles and Dixie should go to separate forever homes, but we are requiring there is another dog in the home because they really love other dogs and will be more comfortable. It will be great for them be able to learn from the other dog and have a companion at the same time.

If you’re like us and find nothing better than the experience of changing a shy pup’s life for the better and watching them blossom into amazing dogs, please apply for Charles or Dixie at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt. They will be the most loyal and loving pups with a little extra time and socializing!

Photos from WILSON ANIMAL RESCUE's post 10/06/2022

These cute pups are just two examples of the beautiful, friendly dogs that find themselves at shelters everyday. These two cuties are at two of our favorite rural TN shelters where they are at maximum capacity and adoptions are few and far between. We would love to help them by bringing these puppies or others into our rescue, but we can only do that with committed foster homes.

The black/tan pup was an owner surrender and the second one was literally dumped outside the shelter in his crate just as pictured🥹. The black/tan pup is probably 4-5 months old and the other is guessed to be around 3 months old.

Puppies not your thing? That’s fine too! We can find an adult dog that works for your family. Please message us if you have any questions about fostering. We pay for all vetting and provide any supplies you need, you just provide the temporary home and a ride to vet appointments! 🙏

The foster application can be found at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt or if you’ve already completed one previously please message, text or email us!

Beautiful Nala is ready for adoption 💜

Nala is a 4.5 month old petite lab/terrier mix. Her and her sister were found running down a busy street a few weeks ago. A Good Samaritan got them to safety but couldn’t keep them, we found fosters and happily welcomed them to WAR. (Fun fact- her sister is actually scruffy like a schnauzer! Genetics are weird!) Nala is a spunky and smart little girl. She has a ton of energy just like any other puppy and loves to play. She is good with big dogs and small dogs. She’s also good with kids. Nala is extremely sweet and cuddling is her favorite activity! She’s learning all of her big girl manners and sits as soon as you grab her leash to go outside. Nala is kennel trained and mostly potty trained as long as you take her outside enough throughout the day. If you’re looking for a puppy that already has some of the basics down, Nala is your gal. Any family would be so lucky to have this sweet puppy!

Foster home needed!

We are looking for a foster home for Willow so we can pull her from a local shelter. She is 1.5 years old, heartworm negative and petite for a boxer. She has been in a home with multiple other dogs since she was a baby. Willow is timid, but once she warms up she is an absolute doll and is sure to steal your heart. We are looking for a foster who can love her like their own until she’s spayed and ready for a new family. If you can foster Willow until she’s adopted please complete our application at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/foster. Fosters must be in the Memphis, TN area. Adopters can be almost anywhere, but we need a foster first.

Sallie, Oh Sallie - What is there not to love about this girl? Sallie is finishing up her heartworm treatment this week and ready for a forever home.

Sallie entered her foster home after over a month at Memphis Animal Services. She immediately fit in without skipping a beat! Sallie is the perfect mix of spunky and sweet. Her favorite activity (besides learning how to chase squirrels in the backyard with her foster sister) is to follow her favorite human around the house. At night, she loves to sleep under the bed but if allowed & not too crowded, she will also snuggle up with you in bed. Sallie can be nervous when new visitors come into her home and does have to earn their trust, but once she gets a belly rub or two, she will warm up. Sallie would be good in a home as an only dog but would also love to have furry siblings. Sallie is about 45 lbs, and 2 years old. She has the perfect medium energy level and is crate/house/leash trained. Sallie is about as perfect as a pup can be!

🚨 Foster needed- Starting October 4th

This sweet angel puppy needs a foster! Jimmy and his brother, John, came into MAS on 9/3. His brother was pulled by a rescue shortly after their arrival but Jimmy was not.

Jimmy sat at MAS until Saturday, 9/17 when he tested positive for Parvo. We were contacted by MAS and asked if we could help him. Jimmy was taken to the emergency clinic Saturday night. We didn’t have a plan or a place for him to go but his story broke my heart. He spent the weekend at AEC and then went to our regular vet. He was officially discharged today. Jimmy has a temporary foster who can keep him until 10/4 while he’s shedding Parvo. After 10/4 he will be safe to be in any type of home and will no longer be shedding Parvo. Please let us know if you can foster Jimmy for a few week starting around 10/4. This boy deserves so much more than what he was handed. Our foster application can be completed at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/foster

Sharing this good boy again because he’s being over looked. Black dog syndrome is real and so very sad. Grizz needs a forever home!

Hi! I’m Grizz! My story is a sad one and I wish a could say it’s unique but the truth is, Memphis is not the best place to be a dog. I was brought in to Cloverleaf Animal Clinic by a person who said they found me after I was “hit by car”. I was only 7-8 weeks old and should have never been on the streets alone in the first place. Everyone in the clinic had a hunch that I was not indeed hit by a car because of the type of fracture that my leg had. Regardless of the truth, they kindly took me in and healed me up. I spent a lot of time in a locked cage at the clinic because my leg needed to heal properly. I was sad to miss out on all the puppy playtime I should have had, but it was only what was best for my body. Throughout all of my bandage changing, it was discovered that I had also lost two toes on one foot and two toe nails on another foot. I have multiple scars left but I’ve learned to use my leg and toes just fine! I’m extremely playful. I’m approximately 8 months old now and I’m neutered, up to date on all shots, deworming and preventions. I would probably do best in a house with girl doggies but with proper introduction and training like my foster mom has done, I can get along with any animal! I love to play and fetch but between us, I still have not completely grasped the entire concept of bringing the ball all of the way back to my foster mom. I’m learning more every day and cannot wait to find a loving family who will love me and all of my physical quirks endlessly. Our application for Grizz can be completed at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt

Meet Captain! Captain is a funny, smart and sweet young pup who found himself dumped at a local dog park due to no fault of his own. He’s 39 pounds and 9 months old. We think he is a cattle dog, shepherd mix- maybe some pitty in there?! He’s been very good with the young kids in his foster home (2 & 3 years) and likes all dogs he’s met. He’s medium energy and very smart- he learned his name in 3 days! He’s done well with potty training and crate training. He’s still a puppy and learning some manners, but he was so much potential and so much love to give! He will make someone a wonderful companion! If you’re interested in adopting Captain, please fill out our application at www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt

We have adoptable dogs to post but to be honest, I can’t bring myself to think about anything other than Eliza Fletcher and the victims of last night’s shootings. Our hearts and prayers are with their family and friends as they grieve. We love you Memphis, but we are tired and our hearts are heavier than ever before.

We know you are tired. Take time to rest—and when you’re ready, rally for the causes that call out to you. Don’t let the darkness mask the light that you’ve cast across your community. Just as we’ve weathered storms together, we will push for progress, hand-in-hand, and dance on the good days that will come. They will come.

Sending love and prayers to this beautiful city as we are all impacted by the tragic events that have taken place 💙

Alex is ready for his happy ever after!

If you’ve been following- Alex was near death’s door a few weeks ago due to poor nutrition and parasites ravaging his body. He was frail and anemic but once he received an emergency blood transfusion and was able to bounce back without much of a hitch. Alex is about 3 months old and we think he is shepherd, retriever, or chow mix or maybe all of the above! Despite what his life must’ve been like prior to his rescue, Alex is such a happy soul. He loves everyone he meets, dogs, kids, strangers, the mail man. To him, everyone has the potential to be his bestie. If you are having a bad day, Alex will be there to cheer you up with his silly puppy charm. We haven’t found anything that spooks him either, not the vacuum, the trash truck or anything in between. We think he’d be a great first puppy or the perfect puppy for someone who wants a dog that’s super adaptable. Alex is fostered with two 50 pound dogs and would love a playmate in his forever home or family who likes to take walks and socialize with other dog pals. Alex is still working on potty training but already does well on a leash and sleeps through the night. Alex is fostered with two toddlers, so he has lots of exposure to children. He is gentle for a puppy and loves playing with kids. Alex will follow you around the house but also knows how to play independently when needed. Truly, Alex could fit in just about anywhere and whoever is lucky enough to adopt him will be getting a fabulous boy.

To complete an application for Alex please visit www.wilsonanimalrescue.com/adopt. He is available for adoption in the memphis area but we also work with transports that have space available to get him to IL, WI, MD, NJ, PA, and CT on September 10th.

Just six weeks ago Ross was at MAS with demodex mange and a secondary skin infection.
After meds and TLC he’s all fixed up and looking for his forever home. He’s currently about 6 months old and 26 pounds. Ross is a smart, sweet, high energy pup who would love to be your shadow. He is house trained, walks well on a leash, plays well with other dogs and will play fetch any day, all day! Ross would be a great running partner, trained in agility or fly ball! Please help us share this boy wonder so he can find his people!

Yeti was a single puppy that landed himself at Memphis Animal Services at only 3-4 weeks old. This is gorgeous boy is about 8 weeks old now and ready to find his family!

Happy Saturday from Alex! 🤩

Alex is thriving and getting stronger everyday. He has been doing so well post blood transfusion that we can only assume hookworms, coccidia and poor nutrition caused his red blood cell count to get so low. But those are all easy fixes now! Thank you to everyone who cared and donated so that Alex could be here with us today!
