WTHS meeting featuring Jimmy Ogle this Sunday at Hillwood at Davies Manor - please join us! "Historical Features of Rural Shelby County" - A Talk by Jimmy Ogle
Ed Haley is a Rural Heritage treasure and we were pleased to be part of this tribute to him, in which Rural Heritage Trust of Southwest Tennessee (RHT) presented him with their first-ever Susan Jones Century Award for historic preservation and promotion in rural southwest Tennessee, following a tribute video created by filmmaker W***y Bearden. Mr. Haley was introduced by Mark Norris, U.S. District Judge for the District of Western Tennessee, and RHT board member Laura Todd of Downtown District Consulting presented the award. The event was sponsored by Rural Heritage Trust, the West TN Historical Society, and the Davies Manor Association, with refreshments provided by the Millington Chamber of Commerce and RHT.
Please join us Sunday, March 3rd at 2:30 p.m. at Davies Manor Historic Site / Hillwood Hall for a new short film about Ed Haley by renowned Southern filmmaker W***y Bearden. Ed Haley is currently City Manager of Millington, but has served in numerous public positions from the post office to the Tennessee legislature. A Q&A with W***y and Ed will follow. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided by Rural Heritage Trust and the Millington Chamber of Commerce.
WTHS members are especially urged to attend a brief business meeting from 1:45 to 2:15 that will include nominating a slate of officers and directors for the upcoming election. This meeting is also free and open to the public. Not yet a member? Join online today at https://wths-tn.org/membership/ or in person at the event!
