Happy Spring Equinox! 🌱
The spirit of growth and renewal is here once again. It is the time to release stagnant emotions and old patterns.
In Chinese Medicine, Spring is the season of the wood element which is associated with the Liver and Gallbladder.
The Liver is responsible for the smooth movement of Qi Energy throughout the body. When the Liver functions smoothly, physical and emotional activity throughout the body also runs smoothly.
If Qi gets stuck, it can lead to Liver Qi stagnation. This may manifest as neck and shoulder tension, chest tightness, digestive symptoms, PMS, migraines, poor sleep, irritability, and impatience or being easily frustrated.
Because spring is the time of the Liver, you may start to notice an increase in your symptoms, especially if you are prone to Liver Qi Stagnation. So, spring is the time to take extra care of your Liver.
There are many ways in which you can support the Wood element in this time.
🚴🏻♀️Movement (hiking, yoga, running/jogging, stretching)
🌲Be in nature (surround yourself with the energy of the trees “Wood energy”)
👨🏽💻Express yourself, by using your voice or journaling but don’t let your emotions get stagnant.
🍲Cleanse your body by eating simple meals. Fresh leafy greens, sweet and pungent flavors.
🧣The Liver is vulnerable to wind and in the strong winds of the Spring it is important to protect yourself against them by wearing appropriate clothing (always cover your neck).
Sanctuary is like a warm hug from your best friend. It’s the place you go when you need to escape and mend. It’s the feeling you get when you’re safe and sound, and it’s worth more than any treasure that can be found.
We love our Veterans!
Don’t forget tomorrow we will be at the new location 4611 W National Ave!

A simple walking meditation
A great way to start your day in these cool October mornings, is doing a walking meditation.
Go to your favorite quiet hiking spot, and while you’re walking bring your attention to your feet, what does walking feel like to you? Do you feel balanced and grounded?.
Now pay attention to your other senses, notice the smells, sounds and landscape. Take a few deep slow breaths, and feel your connection to nature, to your surroundings.
If at any moment there are thoughts that take over, let them come and go like waves in the ocean until the waves become still in a quiet lake.

Happy Fall equinox!, this is the perfect time to slow down, reflect and go inward. And since we are so connected to nature, it reminds us that this is the time to let go of what you no longer need.
In Chinese Medicine, fall is associated with the lungs, the element of metal and the emotion of grief.
Deep slow breathing and allowing yourself to process any stuck emotions can help release them.
Warming foods that nourish fluids are the best to tonify the lungs.
Some foods that help with that are:
🍂Pears
🍂Apples
🍂Ginger
🍂Grapes
🍂Winter squash
🍂Yams
And of course Acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, and Moxibustion are all perfect therapies for nourishing the lungs to prevent illness, help the body/mind process emotions and boost the immune system.

Thank you to the VA Su***de Prevention Task force for partnering with us and including us as a Veteran resource.
One of the most effective tools we use in our holistic approach is touch. We use our hands to scan the body to find where the pain/discomfort is while also finding the cause.
As touch can tell you if the tissue is shortened, lengthened, dry, swollen, cold, or hot. All this information is used in our treatment strategy.
Beyond the literal body there is also an emotional landscape we are listening to. As everyone’s touch history is different, how we touch there is an unspoken communication from the patient to the Acupuncturist. We use this conversation to help the patient release any trapped emotions in the body.
Give mom the gift of relaxation with a gift card from Veteran Sanctuary.
Let her try Acupuncture, she deserves the best!
