Dr. Rivera’s summer research team visited the DuPage Children’s Museum this morning. Our summer project focuses on the ways that children’s museums support their communities. DCM is a wonderful example of a museum that brings so much to the local community, including providing opportunities for students to learn about research.
Dr. Nicole Rivera (Psychology) and Dr. Shereen Ilahi (History) just returned from a 10-day trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland to learn about culture, identity, and history. Several psychology majors and minors joined the program. We will be making a return trip in May 2025. For more information, email Dr. Rivera.

Congratulations to Dr. Lynch and Dr. Rivera’s research teams for their presentations at the Midwest Psychological Association conference. Drs. Peter-Hagene, Azarbad and Rivera also facilitated a round table discussion about the department’s work on assessing climate and belonging.

NCC Psychology folks are traveling with the Sankofa program in Atlanta, GA. The goal of Sankofa is to learn about contemporary issues by exploring the past. Our primary focus this week is on voting rights, but we se also exploring local culture. We were delighted to visit this exhibit at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. The self taught artist’s work was influenced by Rorschach tests and an exploration of emotions.

Students and faculty from the Psychology department participated in today’s Engaged Learning Fair to highlight opportunities with the I/O Psychology club and research with local children’s museums. Students organizations and research are two of the ways students can get involved outside of the classroom.

The Community Psychology class was on the move again. We visited the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Humboldt Park. During our tour, we learned about the many ways this museum serves the community.
